To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM FAUs'rMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in VVatchmakers Loops, of which the following is a specification.

Heretofore as far as I am aware, watch makers loops have been made in various manners; for example, it has been customary to set a lens in one end of a conical tube, the opposite end of which is more or less flaring and adapted to be held in position when in use, by the muscles of the face surrounding the eye. These instruments have also been so constructed that a lens has been set in a frame which is adapted to snap over and engage the rim of a spectacle or eyeglass.

Now in carrying out my present invention, I provide a watch makers loop in which the lens or lenses are mounted in a suitable frame which may be either held in position by the muscles of the eye when in use or is adapted to slip loosely over and to be supported by the lens of spectacles or eyeglasses when in use, so that the same may be employed as well by a person whose eyesight requires the use of glasses as by a person not using glasses.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a watch makers loop made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating a modified form thereof. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the form of loop shown in Fig. 1, illustrating the use thereof in connection with the lens of spectacles.

Referring particularly to the drawing, my improved watch makers loop preferably comprises a pair of rings indicated at 10 and 11 which may be made of wire or any other suitable material, the ring 10 referably being slightly larger than the mug 11.

At 12 I have designated a rim provided with a coupling 13, the parts of which are preferably oined b a screw or other means in order to hold an secure the lens 15 in position in the rim 12.

Connecting the rings 10 and 11 and the rim 12, I prefer to employ a pair of bars indicated at 16, 17 the rings 10 and 11 being connected to these bars 16 and 17 in such positions as to lie in substantially parallel planes slightly spaced apart, the rim 12 being also secured to the bars 16, 17, in such a manner as to assume a position lying in a plane which is substantially parallel to the rings 10 and 11.

As shown in Fig. 2, the bars 16 and 17 may be extended and at their extremities and secured thereto a second and somewhat smaller rim 18, having a coupling 19 similar to the coupling 13, the rim 18 being adapted to receive a lens 20.

As will be apparent, the hereinbefore described watch makers loop may be held in position when in use, by placing the ring 10 against the eye and causing the muscles of the face surrounding the eye to. hold the instrument in osition, or as illustrated in Fig. 3,the watcli makers loop may be passed over the lenses of spectacles, the ring 10 coming behind the glass and the ring 11 in front thereof, while the instrument is supported in position by those portions of the bars 16 and 17 intermediate of the rings 10 and 11 coming in contact with and resting upon the upper surface of the rim of the spectacle glass or the upper edge of the glass in the event of the use of spectacles in which the glasses have no rims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A watch makers loop comprising a rim, a lens therein, members lyin substantially parallel to one another an adapted to extend over opposite sides of a spectacle glass, one of said members assuming a position on one side of said glass and the other on the opposite side thereof, and means for connecting the said members and rim.

2. A watch makers loop comprising a rim, a lens therein, rings and means for connecting the said rings and the said rim together.

3. A watch makers loop comprising a rim, a lens therein, a pair of rings and means for connecting the said pair of rings and the said rim together so t at the same assume positions lying in substantially parallel planes.

4. A watch makers loop comprising a rim, a coupling therein, a ens a apte to be secured in position within the said rim by said coupling, a pair of rings and a pair of bars connected to the said rings and rim in such a manner that the latter assume positions in substantially parallel planes.
