CIGAR-CLIPPER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LLOYD B. DENNIS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Norwalk, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar- Clippers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cigar clips and more particularly to that class of cigar clippers which may be carried about ones person.

My invention has for its object the production of such a clip the cost of which will be extremely small as compared with those now on the market and at the same time one which will be effective in use.

With these objects in view, I construct a cigar clipper of either one or two pieces of spring metal so formed as to produce two overlapping ends, said ends being sharpened to provide means for cutting the cigar.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1 illustrates a view in side elevation of one form of my invention showing the cigar in dotted outline; Fig. 2 illustrates an end view of the clipper shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 illustrates a view similar to Fig. 1 showing another form of my invention; and Fig. 4: is an end view of the clipper shown in Fig. 3.

In carrying my invention into practice, I provide a strip of metal A, which is bent at 3 so as to form two arms 1 and 2, said arms being offset from one another and provided with concaved portions '-l and 5 respectively. From an inspection of the drawings, it will be seen that these concaved portions are in such position that the fingers may be received therein, when operating the clipper, the end 3 providing a convenient means for grasping the device.

The ends of the arms 1 and 2 are bent inwardly at 6 and 7 respectively, each of said inwardly bent portions being provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

a notch or aperture 8 and 9 respectively, said apertures being beveled or sharpened in order that they will operate more effectively. The inwardly bent ends are so disposed with relation to one another that they will slide on one another when the two arms are pressed, thus clipping off the end of the cigar B when the same is inserted in the aforementioned aperture.

In the form of my invention disclosed in Fig. 3 I provide two arms 10 and 11, respectively, having their ends 12 and 13 ofi'set so that they may be easily fastened by means of a rivet 14 or other connecting means. The arm 11 has its outer end 15 bent inwardly at an incline and has an angular extension 16, adjoining the inclined portion. An aperture 19 is formed in the end of this arm, said aperture having its edges sharpened as before.

The arm 10 has an inwardly projecting portion 17 having a sharpened edge 18 adapted to slide over the extension 16 when said arms are contracted.

From the foregoing it is thought the structure and operation of my invention will be readily appreciated. I desire it to be understood, however, that I may make slight changes in the arrangement and combination of parts without deviating from the spirit and scope of my invention. For instance, the form of knives disclosed in Fig. 1 may be employed in a clipper formed of two independent arms similar to that shown by Fig. 3 and vice versa.

I claim A cigar clipper comprising a strip of flat spring metal bent upon itself forming two arms, said arms having substantially parallel portions merging into compound curves, said compound curves abruptly merging into straight end portions, said end portions being parallel to each other and inclined With relation to the parallel portion of said arms, said end portions overlapping each other and having a bevel-edged aperture in the overlapping ends for receiving and clipping the tip of a cigar.
