COMBINED BOOTJACK AND FOOT-REST.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed August 31, 1909.
Patented May 31, 1910. Serial No. 515,510.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN SECKEN- DORFF, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Hanover, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful IInprovements in Combined Bootjacks and Foot-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an appliance adapted to be used alternatively as a bootjack and as an elevated foot-rest or bench on which the user can place one foot while lacing the boot thereon.
The object of the invention is to provide, for these two purposes, an appliance which can be converted from one use to the other by simple downward pressure applied by hand or foot, as will be described hereinafter.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side view of the folded appliance, and Fig. 2 a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side view of the appliance, erected to serve as a foot-rest, and Fig. at shows the appliance partly folded.
The appliance comprises a pair of legs I), connected at their lower, upturned ends by a cross-bar a. To the legs I) is fixed a board 0 having the usual crotch for engaging the boot. A board (Z of the same width as the board 0 is pivoted at e to another pair of legs and is also connected by a slotted connection to the legs 6 by links 71.. The two pairs of legs 6 and g are connected to each other by a pivot f. Each of the links it has a notch 2' adapted to engage a pin k projecting from the leg 6 connected to the link. The two legs 6 and g at each side of the appliance are connected to each other below the pivot f by a spring Z. A thick bar or board m con nects the legs 9 to each other, and a hook n is pivoted to the under-part of the board (Z.
For using the appliance as a boot-jack it is folded as shown in Fig. 1, the plate (Z being then in alinement with the plate 0, to serve as a rest for one foot while the boot is drawn from the other foot.
For erecting the appliance, the bar a is depressed by means of one foot, so that the legs 6 rock and lift the attached board 0. This enables the springs Z to contract and raise the upper ends of the legs 9 which lift the board (Z, and push the latter over the board 0, until the notches z' of the links which engage the pins k on the legs 5. The appliance then forms an elevated foot-rest or bench on which one foot can be placed during the lacing of the boot; the board a? has a depression for the heel of the boot.
For re-folding the appliance the rear edge of the board (Z is depressed, as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 3, and by this means the links it are disengaged from the pins in, so that by depressing the upper ends of the legs 9 the whole appliance can be caused to collapse, as shown in Fig. 4. The bar m serves as a foot for the folded appliance, and the hook it is engaged with the board 0, to retain the appliance in its folded state, and must be disengaged by the operator before the appliance can be operated.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a boot-jack and foot-support the combination of a pair of legs having upturned ends, a crotched board connected to the opposite ends of said legs, a second pair of legs pivoted to the aforesaid pair, a board pivoted to said second pair of legs, and links connecting said last mentioned board to the first pair of legs, said links being so disposed that the two boards clear each other when the device is collapsed and the one overrides the other when the device is erected.
2. In a boot-jack and foot-support the combination of a pair of legs having upturned ends, a crotched board connected to the opposite ends of said legs, a second pair of legs pivoted to the aforesaid pair, a board pivoted to said second pair of legs, and links connecting said last mentioned board to the first pair of legs, said links being so disposed that the two boards clear each other when the device is collapsed and the one overrides the other when the device is erected, and pins on said first pair of legs engaging the links in erected position.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two Witnesses.
HERMANN SECKENDORFF.
