CLIP OR FASTENER APPLICABLE FOR SECURING BOOT-LACES AND NECKTIES.

boot and shoe laces, and the like, the object" being to provide a simple and eflicient contrivance suitable for use as a neck tie retainer and also as an appliance for securing in position boot and shoe laces and the like.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :Figure l is a plan of the device shown open, Fig. 2 is a side elevation; the
closed position being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 8 shows the application of the device to a shoe lace and, Flg. 4 shows the manner in which it is employed as a tiretainer.
This improved device, as shown in the drawings comprises an open frame or base a having the side members 6, 0, hinged thereto; the said side members being designed to fold over the base a as shown in dotted lines;
(Fig, 2) and to be secured together'by means of the projecting part at carried by one of the members enterin the spring recesses e of the other part a er the manner of an ordinary spring press fastener, while the frame or base a is provided with a hook f as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
In practice and as shown in Fig. 3 as applied to a shoe lace, the hook f is passed under; the 'laces, the bow is then tied. over the plate or base a and when the bow has been completed, the side members are brought together and connected so that the bow lies between the lower frame a, and the upper frame comprising the united members I) and 0. \Yhen employed as a tie retainer and as shown in Fig. 4, the hook passes under the flap of the shirt, the tie passes 'over the base a of the device and the side members I), c, are then secured together over the tie.
What I claim as my invention and desire to revoke by Letters Patent is In :1 clasp, the combination with a flat base provided with a central open portion, a loop hook connected with the sides of said base and extending across said open portion, and clasp members of substantially equal length hinged to the ends of said base and arranged to be turned into overlapping relation with respect to each other and abreast of that side of the base opposite to the side on which the hook is disposed to clamp the material between said basev and members, each member having on its free end one element of a two part fastenin device.
