Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led May 10, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnEDEiucK F. Gnorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lagon-Bodies, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing'.
My invention relates to a wagon body which is intended for pleasure, business or professional use, and which is more part-icularly adapted for undertakers use, as what is known as an embalmers wagon, arovision being made to carry the kit and oard in a compact manner and without detracting from the neat and pleasure vehicle appearance of the wagon. The wagon may also be used for light delivery purposes, or for pleasure purposes without any change in design or construction.
Vith these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the annexed drawing-s, which form a part of this application; and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, and in which I have omitted any reference to the running gear of the wagon, as any suitable gear may be employed for this purpose, and my invention relates only to the body of the vehicle; and it is further understood that while I have here described my invention as herewith shown, that I do not confine myself to the exact construction, as slight changes may be made without depart-ing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application Figure l, is a side elevation of a wagon body embodying my invention. Fig. Q, is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is a rear elevation of the same, showing the door in the rear. Fig. 4e, is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of Fig. l. Fig. 5, is a rear elevation, with the door open, showing the interior arrangement. Fig. 6, is a detail top plan view of the board holders in the rear compartment. Fig. 7, is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 8, is an end view of the same, showing the eyes for the retaining strap.
In the drawings, I have shown a wagon body provided with thc panel sides l, containing the lights 2, and provided with the extension top 3; while to said body I have added the rear extension comprising the sides 4.-, in the rear of and forming a part of the sides l, and being formed with the rounded corners 5, and joined to the rear end G, within which is placed the door 7 while the top 3, extended to embrace this rear extension. By this arrangement it will be seen that a compartment 8 is formed back of the seat-back 9, which extends at its lower end forward under the seat l0, and thus when the vehicle is intended for embalmers` use, the kit may be carried in the seat compartment, and the board and other articles stood on end in the compartment 8, and retained in place by brackets or holders 11, which are secured to the scat-back 9, and which are formed with the eyes l2, through which are passed the securing straps 13. In this manner a vehicle is provided that in its general outward appearance does not differ greatly from a pleasure vehicle, but which has enough carrying space to be used for numerous purposes.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a vehicle body of the class described, the combination with a body having panel sides and an extending top, of a rear closed and paneled extension, formed with rounded corners and integral with the sides of said body, a door formed in the rear of said extension communicating with the compartment formed therein, and means secured to the back of the vehicle seat for securing articles within said compartment.
