JACOB H. YOUNG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ADJUSTABLE FASTENING DEVICE FOR SUSPENDER-STRAPS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAcoB H. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Fastening Devices for Suspender-Straps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to suspenders, and more particularly to devices designed to be arranged at the point of intersection of the suspender straps at the back of the wearer, to facilitate holding the same in place.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned which will be of such construction as to be adapted to be arranged upon a pair of suspenders at the intersection of the straps thereof so as to act in the capacity of an adjustable keeper therefor.
Suspenders in common use at the present time, are, to some wearers, not infrequently very uncomfortable, inasmuch as the straps thereof, at the point of their intersection are usually sewed or fixed together, hence allowing for no adjustment as to the position of the intersection point. All suspenders for men being made of a substantially uniform size, it is evident that because of the variations in builds and dimensions of diflerent men, suspenders, in which the point of intersection of the straps thereof is fixed, as be fore stated, are unfit or unsuited, and hence uncomfortable for a great number, upon a man of small stature such intersection point being too high and vice versa with reference to a man of large stature such intersection point is too low, thereby obviously making it uncomfortable for both.
It is therefore the object of my invention to remedy such objection by providing, as before mentioned, a device for holding the suspender straps together at the point of their intersection, which may be readily adjusted, and, which when adjusted, will be adapted to remain in such position with relation to the suspender straps.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character stated which will be of great efficiency and which will be simple of construction, hence of low cost to manufacture.
With these objects in view, my invention consists in a device characterized as above mentioned, and in certain details of con- Specification of Letters Patent.

struction' which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 illustrates the application of the preferred form of my device. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a modified form thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan View thereof, and Fig. 4: is a vertical transverse section taken on the line :c:c of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings, my invention consists simply in a preferably sheet metal sleeve or tubular member 1, the lateral edges 2 of which are angularly formed as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The front wall 3 of said member is formed with number of indentures 4, the inner surfaces of the extremities of which are in close proximity with the inner surface of the wall 5 of said member. In order to increase the flexibility and reduce the weight of the device, I form the walls 3 and 5 thereof with large openings or perforations 6, such perforations being of any ornamental or fancy design.
In applying the device the suspender straps 7 are inserted into the narrow passage or slot 8 formed by the member 1, as shown in Fig. 1, said straps, in which event, are engaged by the indentures 4 of said member, thereby serve as a means of locking the latter in position relative to the straps 7 As shown in Fig. 1 the member 1 is provided with but two indentures, such being deemed adequate to securely hold the same in position upon the straps of a pair of suspenders. In order to more positively insure a secure gripping of the suspender straps, I may provide the member 1 with four indentures, as shown in Fig. 2, however that form shown in Fig. 1 is the preferable form of my device, as it is thought two indentures will suflice. By the provision of a device of a construction as described, it is evident that the adjustment as to the position of the intersection point of the straps of a pair of suspenders may be readily and easily effected.
While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my device, I do not wish to be limited thereto, as there might be minor changes made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention. And although I have designed my deviceaWit-h specializreferences to suspenders I may use the same in any other connection to which it is applicable.
Having described my invention What I" claim as new andidesiretosecureby Letters Patent is: ,7 A deyicerof theclass described comprising a tubular member to receive the crossed straps of a pair of suspenders,the-passage through said member being narrow and elon gate in cross section, indentures provided ina one I ofwthe walls; of said imemberg the-inner extremities of said indentures being in closer proximity to, the; opposite: Wall; and each: adapted: to; permit; frictional; passage of a suspender-i strap-i bet-Ween; it and-said oppo= frictional pressure at the section is dispensed With, substantially as gsite" WalL. each of" said v indenturesi being adapted to engage but one of the straps and tionofthe straps whereby a iportion of the point of interdescribed;
In testimony wher'eofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
