TIRE-REMOVER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER G. Wmsr, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tire- Removers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tools for removing tires from wheels, and more particularly to a tool especially adapted to be used for removing automobile clench tires, the object being to provide a tool which is so constructed that the outer casing can be readily removed without any danger of injuring the inner tube.
A further object of my invention is to provide a tool with a revoluble conical head adapted to be forced under the flange of the casing and the rim, so that by sliding the tool around the periphery of the rim, the flange will be drawn out of the clenched mm.
A still further object of the invention is to provide the head with an annular flange for holding the tool in position on the rim after it has been inserted under the flange of the casing, so that all danger of the same slipping out after once being inserted, is prevented, said flange also serving the purpose of holding the flange of the casing in such a position that as the tool is forced around the periphery of the tire, it will be drawn from under the clenched rim, in such a manner that the casing will not be injured in any way.
Another object of my invention is to provide a tool having a hooked end for starting, or loosening the casing from under the clenched rim, so that the revoluble head can be placed in position.
A still further object is to provide very novel means for mounting the revoluble head upon the handle, so that the same can freely rotate thereon without any danger of its coming off, or injuring the inner tube.
1th these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.

The other end of the handle A is reduced as shown at A on which is revolubly mounted a sleeve B having a conical head C provided with an annular flange D.
The end of the head C is provided with an annular recess surrounding the reduced portion of the handle, in which is adapted to be arranged a washer E, through which extends an outwardly projecting pin F, formed integral with the end of the reduced portion A of the handle, said pin having its end swaged for locking the washer to the same. The washer also looks the revoluble head and sleeve in position on the handle in such a manner that the head is allowed to rotate freely thereon.
in placing my improved tool in position to removethe outer casing of an automobile wheel, the angled end is first forced under the flange of the casing, and by exerting a downward pressure on the handle, the casing is raised so that a block or any other suitable chuck can be placed under the same, and the angled end is then withdrawn, and the revoluble head inserted, and by forcing the handle around the rim, the revoluble head will revolve on the periphery of the rim, in such a manner that the flange of the casing will be drawn outwardly from under the clench-rim without any danger of the tool slipping inwardly, so as to puncture the inner tube, and it will be seen that as the tool is forced around the rim, the flange of the casing is held on the conical portion, so as to prevent the same from becoming injured.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very novel tool for removing the outer casing of automobile wheels, which is so constructed that the same can be moved freely around the periphery of the rim after the same has been inserted under the flange of the casing. It will be seen that as the tool is forced around the rim, the head will revolve upon the handle, so as to allow the same to roll over the rim, whereby the friction is decreased, which enables the operator to move the tool easily.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A pneumatic tire remover embodying a handle having a reduced end portion, a sleeve of uniform diameter fitting loosely around the reduced portion of the handle, and aconical member or head mounted to turn freely on the reduced portion of the handle independently of the sleeve and beyond the outer extremity of the sleeve, said head being provided with a circumferential flange at its outer end where it is of the greatest diameter.
2. A pneumatic tire remover embodying a handle, a sleeve mounted to turn freely thereon, and a conical head also mounted to turn freely thereon independently of and reversely to said sleeve, said head being provided with a circumferential retainer flange at its outer end where it is of the greatest diameter.
