Be it known that I, SIGMUND STROH, a subject of the King of Hungary, and resident of AudreyI-Iouse, Ely Place, London, E. 0., England, merchant, have invented Improvements in'Metal Seals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to metal seals adapted to be closed on cords and the like used for fastening packages.
The object of this invention is to rovide a seal which shall be cheap to manu acture, which can be used without the necessity of threading the cords through holes therein and which, when secured in position, cannot be tampered with without detection.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of one form of seal constructed in accordance with this invention and shown in its open position ready for use; Fig. 2 is a cross sectlon thereof on line l-1 Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an end view thereof in the direction of the arrow A, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a face view showing the seal closed into position for use. Fig. 5 is a cross section thereof on line 44 Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a cross section thereof on line 55 Fig. 4. Fig. 7 is a rear View thereof. Fig. 8 is a face view of a seal with a depression therein. Fig. 9.is a cross section thereof on line 8-8 Fig. 8 and Fig. 10 is a rear View thereof.
The seal comprises a circular dished metal plate a provided with a flange b at the edge of its concave side, a second circular dished metal plate c having a circular shoulder 03, the plate 0 being adapted to fit in the plate a, a neck e connecting'together said plates (1 and c, serrations e being disposed at an angle to the plane of said neck 6 and along the sides thereof, and serrations f being disposed in a recess 9 in the flange b.
In use the cords h h are placed on either side of the neck e and. said neck 6 is bent so shoulder d on the p ate 0. Seals constructed in accordance with this invention may be embossed, before use, in
any desired manner so as to be readily identified and if desired, the seals may be impressed with a particular mark at the time they are closed.
Figs. 8, 9 and 10 illustrate a seal adapted to be closed in this manner. The central part y of each of the plates at and c is provided with a depression each of said depressions having a flat bottom and being of such depth that their adjacent surfaces are in close contact when the seal is closed so that the seal may be impressed while it is being closed. on said neck and in said recess bein adapted to engage with the cord to be sea ed, and said plates having depressions the bottoms of which are in contact, the depressed parts of said plates being adapted to receive impressions when the seal is being closed.
