INOAN DESGENT LAMP FOR VAPORIZED-LIQUID COMBUSTIBLES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH WIKTORIN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incandescent Lamps for Vaporized-Liquid Combustibles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an incandescent lamp utilizing liquid combustibles, especially spirit in vaporized form and provided in the usual manner with a preliminary vaporizer and with an evaporating chamber and which as regards the upwardly extending pipe connecting the preliminary vaporizer with the evaporating chamber and also as regards the superheating pipe, is arranged in such a manner that a complete vaporization of the combustible will take place before it leaves the evaporating chamber so that the feeding of liquid combustible into the mixing tube and burner will be entirely prevented, apart from variations in quantity and ascending power of the combustible, discharged from the preliminary vaporizer into the evaporating chamber and which is still incompletely vaporized. The arrangement under the invention is such that said upwardly extending pipe and the superheating pipe project above the level of the evaporating chamber and are closed in such manner that they may be readily cleaned when necessary.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of an example in vertical section a lamp embodying the invention.
The chamber as containing the liquid combustible communicates by means of a feed pipe 19 with the preliminary vaporizer 0. The latter is filled with a suitable filtering mass 0?, which for cleaning purposes may be removed by unscrewing'the plug 6. From the preliminary vaporizer 0 an upwardly extending pipe f leads to an evaporating chamber g. This pipe passes through the latter and its upper end is closed by a plug h. Where it connects with the preliminary vaporizer the pipe f is curved or the former is curved at that end which is connected with Specification of Letters Patent.

said pipe as shown in the example illustrated in the drawing, so that a gradually ascending path ..for the combustible from the preliminary vaporizer to the upwardly extendmg pipe is obtained and thorough and easy cleaning of the conduit by a flexible cylindrical brush or the like is rendered possible. The part of the upwardly extending pipe which is situated within the evaporating chamber is formed with a longitudinally extending slit 2' or with a series of holes, through which the partly vaporized combustible and any liquid particles which may be carried along with the same are led from below in a finely divided state up into the evaporating chamber. From the chamber 9 a superheating pipe 70 leads downward into the mixing tube of the burner. The superheat ng pipe also passes through the evaporatlng chamber and is closed on its upper end by a screw-plug Z upon the removal of which it can easily be cleaned.
The part of the tube 70 which is situated near the cover of the evaporating chamber, 1s formed with openings m through which only combustible vapor will pass, as those particles of liquid fuel which are carried through the upwardly extending pipe will fall to the bottom of the evaporating chamher and will be there vaporized. The superheating pipe is provided with a nozzle 17. which in order to facilitate cleaning can be unscrewed from underneath by a suitable pipe wrench. The superheating tube 70 communicates with the mixing pipe through said nozzle; by means of a suitably arranged tube 0 the air needed for the gas mixture is sucked into the mixing pipe. Below the preliminary vaporizer 0 an igniting cup p is arranged, to which the combustible may be led from the chamber a containing the combustible by a special conduit in some known way.
The evaporating chamber is arranged at a higher level than the chamber aso as to further safeguard against the entry of any incompletely vaporized combustible into the evaporating chamber. For the purpose of cleaning the evaporating chamber this latter is also provided with a screw closure Q.
The lamp herein described afiords the utmost facility for completely cleaning all the parts liable to become fouled; it effects complete vaporization of the liquid combustible because the combustible is at first partly vaporized in the preliminary vaporizer, then, while it is being carried upward in the upwardly extending pipe it is submitted to a further slow vaporization and at last is wholly vaporized in the evaporating chamber. Finally the entry of the combustible in the form of fluid particles into the mixing tube is entirely prevented, whereby an increased illuminating effect is obtained and interruption in the working of the lamp is avoided.
' Glaims 1. An incandescent vapor lamp comprising a fuel reservoir, a vaporizing chamber, a fuel conduit communicating with the reservoir extending into the chamber and communicating therewith through a longitudinal opening or openings in the fuel conduit, a superheating conduit extending longitudinally of the chamber and communicating with the latter through an opening in the superheating conduit near the top of the chamber, for the purpose specified, a burner, and a mixing conduit connecting the superheating conduit and burner.
2. An incandescent vapor lamp, comprising a fuel reservoir, a vaporizing chamber mounted above the latter, a fuel conduit communicating with the reservoir and extending longitudinally through the vaporizing chamber and communicating with the latter through openings extending longitudinally of the fuel conduit, a superheating pipe closed at the top and extending through thevaporizer and communicating with the latter through an opening in the superheating conduit near the top of the vaporizer, a burner, and a mixing tube connecting the burner and superheating conduit.
3. An incandescent vapor lamp, comprising a fuel reservoir, a preliminary vaporizer mounted below the latter and communicating therewith, a vaporizing chamber mounted abovev the reservoir, a tube communicat-- ing with the preliminary vaporizer extending through the vaporlzing chamber and communicating therewith through a longitudinal opening extending substantially throughout the length of the vaporizing chamber, a removable cap on the end of the tube above the vaporizer chamber, a superheating pipe extending through the vaporizing chamber and communicating therewith through a lateral opening in the superheating tube near the top of the vaporizing chamber, a nozzle on the lower end of the superheating tube, a mixing tube into which the nozzle projects, a lateral air conduit communicating with the mixing tube, and a burner carried by the latter.
