To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoAR J. OLM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Envelops .of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to envelope, and has for an object to provide an article of this character thatcan be stamped from a single piece of material and which when folded will'be of such construction as will permit it to receive first class mail matter in such manner that it can be carried through the mails at. second class rates.
Another object of the invention is to provide an envelop of the character described with a free flap which will readily permit inspection. of the contents of the envelop but which when in its operative posi tion will effectively prevent accidental dis-- charge of the contents of the said envelop.
The above mentioned andother objects .are attained by the construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, as disclosed on the drawing, .set forth in this specification, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in ich like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :F igure 1 is a rear view of the envelop with the sealing flap occupying a common plane with the front wall. My improved envelop consists ofa single blank of material. which comprises a main body portion or front wallfi which has integrally formed therewith at its. ends end flaps 2, at its upper edge a top flap 3 and at its lower edge a bottom flap 4. The blank is scored longitudinally upon the lines 5 and transversely upon the lines 6 whereby the aps can be readily folded to lie parallel with the front wall 1. The bottom fiap 4 is substantially of V-form and is provided adjacent to one of its edges with a gummed surface 7. The said flap is provided with a lateral tongue or extension 8 which is sion which is carried thereby. When it is desired to seal the envelop the top flap 3 is folded to overlie the. upper edge portions of the end flaps and is adapted to be securely fastened to the tongue or extension 8 of the bottom flap.
The construction of the envelop just de scribed is such that one of the end flaps of the envelop is free to be withdrawn from its operative positidn so as to permit inspection of the contents of the envelop as will be ap preciated. By securely fastening the top flap to one of the end flaps and to the bottom flap and the tongue or extension S carried thereby a very broad overlying portion will \iating its becoming accidentally withdrawn.
The construction of the envelop herein described is such that the tongue 8 is spaced from the adjacent edge portion of the flap l to provide a very large space for the reception of the finger so that the pressure of the finger can be effectively applied to the free end flap 2 to remove it.
I claim:
