To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILBERT \V. Goonnmon, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield, in the State of Connectiout, having invented a certain new and hseful Improved Electric-Lamp-Socket Cap, of
" which the following is a specification.
My invention has more particular reference to sockets for incandescent electric lamps of the general type illustrated in my Letters Patent N 0. 879,819, dated February 19, 1908,'and No. 872,283, dated November 26, 1907. One of the characteristic features of these sockets is the provision of means whereby the shell may be secured to the cap in any one of many differentpositions rotarily. For this purpose, in the preferred form of the the sockets shown in my patents the flanges of the caps and the shell are provided one, with a large number of symmetrically arranged openings to cooperate with engaging means on the other and as shown in my Patent N 0. 782,283, the flange of the cap is preferably also corrugated longitudinally of its axis in proportion to the number of engaging openings therein.
The main 0b]Ct of my present invention is to so construct a cap of this character that it will be stronger and more rigid than the old style of cap, and easier to finish and polish and manufacture, and will possess all the advantages growing out of the use of my said. patented improvements.

The securing ring A is made to fit closely within the flange of the cap and is secured in place by spinning the outer edge'of this cap over the ring as seen in Fig. 2. Any suitable means may be used to prevent the ring A from turning within the flange of the cap. This may be accomplished by making the ring A a very tight fit within the flange, forcing it into place, or as indicated at the left-hand side of Fig. 2, one or more 80 dents may be punched into the cap of the flange to drivethe' metal of the cap into the space or spaces between corrugations.
The cap thus made is ver strong and rigid at 1ts flange where principal strain would come, and at the same time a smooth outer surface is resented which is much easier to finish an to polish than the corrugated perforated flange.
I claim as my invention:
1. An electric lamp socket having a plain flange with a ring to aid in securing the shell to the cap in any one of the many difl erent positions, said ring bein ermane-ntly secured within the flange oftlie cap.
