Description

E. BARKER.
COOKING STOVE.
APPLICATION FILED JAN.15, 1910.
Patented May 10, 1910.
EDWABD BARKER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
', COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patente lviay it), 1910,
Application filed January 15, 1910. Serial No. 538,269.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, EDWARD BARKER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
- My invention relates to im rovements in cooking stoves and more particularly to an accessory therefor, the ob ect of the invention being the provision of means to prevent spattering from food which is being cooked on the stove, and also to prevent heat radiation.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned which may be compactly folded when not in use, and which shall be simple of construction and efiicient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
- With these objects in View my invention consists in the novel construction and ar-- v is a plan viewbf the accessory or hood for the stove in its open position, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the locking means employed in the device.
Referring now to the drawings 1 designates an ordinary gas cooking stove and 2 my improved hood adapted to inclose the burner openings of the stove and receptacles containing food which is being cooked'thereon. The hood 2 comprises a rectangular rear portion 3, to which are hinged end portions 4 and a top portion 5 by means. of the hing'esfi and 7 respectively. .The top portion 5 is provided with a bent-over edge 8 in which the locking rod 9 is slidably mounted, said locking rod having a handle 10 at one extremity thereof by means of which it may be withdrawn.
Perforations 11 are provided in one corner of the end portions 4:, and through these perforations the locking rod 9 is adapted to pass when the device is bein fitted ready for use. Recesses 12 are provided in the edge 8 to make clearance for the corners of the end portions 4, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The recesses 13 are formed in the end portions 4 to render the device neater in appearance.
When not 1n use the device may be folded compactly and stored away, it being clear that after the end portions are unlocked from the top portion by withdrawing the locking rod that said end portions may be folded upon the rear portion, and that the top portion may then be folded over the end portions. It will be seen that the top portion 5 may be used to advantage in warming plates or other dishes.
While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my invention I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be many changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described, hence I desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, an elongated rectangular rear portion, end portions hinged to said rear portion, a sub stantially rectangular top portion hinged to said rear portion, and means for locking said top portion to said end portions comprising a bent-over edge in said top "portion and a locking rod slidably mounted therein, said end portions having perforations adapted to register with and permit the passage of said locking rod, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, an
I prising a bent-over edge in said top portion having recesses adapted to receive the end portions and a locking rod slidably mountname to this specification in the presence of ed dthereiln adapted til span said frecesses, two subscribing witnesses. sai en ortions, avin er orations adapted to 12: 'ster with an to ermit the EDWARD BARKER .5 passage of said. locking rod, su stantially Witnesses:
as described. HE EN F. LILLIS,
In testimony whereof I have signed. my JOSHUA B. H. Po'rrs.
