Description
J. R. RINKIN. Carriage Axle. No. 95,726. Patented 0011.12, 1869.
-. mt tetra J. R. RENKIN, OF HILLSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIM: SELF AND M. M. GRUMBLING, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent N0. cemented October 12, 1869.
IMEROVEMENT IN REVERSIBLE AXLE FOB. GARRIAG-ES.
To all wlwin it may concern Be it known that I, J. R. Rnnxm, of Hillsdale, lll the county of Indiana, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Reversible Axles for Carriages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accom panyingdrawngs, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of myinvention consists in constructing the axle of carriage with double and reversible spindles, with projections D, as hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification Figure 1 is a side view of my improvement in axles for carriages.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same at line 11',
Figure 3 is a top view of the double spindle.
'lhe axle is made in two parts, A and B, which are held together by clips. 0.
In the ends of the. parts A and B are fitted the The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making .part of the same.
double spindles e and f, the form of which is clearly shown in fig. 3.
The construction and arrangement of the several parts, and the. relation they bear to each other, are clearly shown in the accompanying drawings.
My improved axle is secured to the running gear .and body of the carriage in the ordinary manner.
The noveltyof my improvement consists in providingthe reversible spindle with the projections D, which are placed midway between the two ends of the spindle. These projections will prevent the spindle from moving endwise in the body of the axle.
In case one end of the spindle is broken ofi','the
clips O can readily. be removed, the parts A and-B
