RAZOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE F. I'IOLLON, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vaco, in the county of M'cLennan and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to razors, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and effective means in connection with the handle and blade of a razor, to position the blade with respect to the handle and prevent the blade from passing entirely through the handle or far enough to expose the cutting edge of the blade; also to make it convenient to support the razor upon the usual sanitary razor steamer so as to subject the blade to the action of the steam or hot water as the case may be.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the nature of which will more readily ap pear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a razor embodying the present invention showing the same open. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the blade closed. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the razor. Fig. l is a cross section through the same.

The razor contemplated in this invention comprises the usual handle embodying the twin side pieces 1 and 2, between which the shank 3 of the razor blade 4 is received and held by means of the pivot 5, the handle pieces 1 being riveted or otherwise secured together at their opposite ends and having the spacing end piece 6 fastened between the same to provide the usual blade space within the handle.

In carrying out the present invention, the blade 4. instead of being provided with a thick or wide back as is the usual plan, is cut away at its outer end as shown at 7 to provide a projecting lug S which forms at its inner side a stop shoulder 9 which, when the blade is closed as shown in Fig. 2, rests against the spacin end piece 6 of the handle and prevents the blade from passing through the handle so as to permit the cutting edge of the blade to protrude beyond the plane of the handle.

portion of the razor blade, it will be understood that in practice the lug 8 may be simply added to the razor blade so as to project beyond the end of the blade proper, the essential requirement being that there be a shoulder 9 beyond the inclosed portion of the razor blade which will project far enough to meet and rest against the closed end portion of the razor handle.

By forming the blade of the razor of uniform thickness throughout, such blade may be cut out of steel after being brought to an edge, hardened or tempered to the requisite degree. Furthermore, the cost of manufacture of the razor blades is materially reduced, enabling quite a number of blades to be handled in the same time now required in handling a single blade made from a thick slug of steel. All the heating required to harden or temper the blade may be done in a blast perfectly free from any mineral coal, thereby obtaining a per lect temper for the cutting edge of therazor. razor.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is As a new article of manufacture, a razor comprisin a handle including identically formed site pieces and a spacing end piece secured between the said side pieces, said side pieces of the handle having their upper edges curved outwardly and downwardly at a point at the sides of the said spacing end piece, and a thin blade having an integral shank at one end pivoted between the opposite end portions of the handle side pieces and provided at its opposite end with an outwardly extending lug to engage and rest upon said spacing end piece and adapted to expose the outer edge of the said blade approximately throughout the length of the same, said spacing end piece having its outer surface curved to conform to the curvature of the said upper surfaces of the handle side pieces so that the inner edge portion of the lug will be slightly spaced from the spacing end piece to permit of the insertion of the finger in opening the blade.
