To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE B. F. EME- RICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of Vill and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in feed bags particularly with reference to means for supporting the same in position for use and so that the said supporting means may be folded up out of the way when the bag is not in use, the object of the invention being to provide a feed bag supporting device which is ada ted to be readily attached to the hames o a harness, disposed in extended position to enable the feed bag to be used and folded compactly up against the collar and hames out of the way when the bag is not in use, and the said invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a feed bag supporting device constructed in accordance with this invention showing the same extended in operative position attached to the hame and supporting a feed bag in position for use. Fig. 2 is a slde elevation on a larger scale showing the feed ba supportin@ device and the feed bag fol ed compacttly as when not in use.

In accordance with my invention, I provide a base element 1 for application to one of a pair of hames on one side of a harness collar and the said base element is here shown as provided at its ends with a pair of fixed jaws 2 to engage one side of the hame and at the center with a movable jaw 3 and an operating screw 4, for clamping said jaw against the opposite side of the hame so as to firmly and yet detachably secure the base element to the hame. This construction also admits of the base element being adjusted up or down on the hame as may be required. The said base element is provided on its front side with a lug 5.

A supporting arm 6 for the nose bag 7 comprises an inner member 8 and an outer member 9 pivotally connected together as at 10 and provided at their pivotal connection or joint with a clamping screw 11 whereby the outer member 9 may be fixed at any desired adjustment with respect to the inner member. Said inner member is provided with a longitudinal slot 12 and at its upper end is here shown as provided with a pair of lugs 13 which bear on opposite sidesl of the lug 5 of the base element. A clamping screw 14. is provided to pass through alining openings in the said lugs 5 and 13 and coact with said lugs in pivot-ally connecting the inner member of the arm to the base element and in securing said inner member at any desired adjustment. The coengaging lugs at the pivotal joint between the inner member and the base element and the outer and inner members of the arm are here indicated in Fig. 9. provided with seri-ations in their opposing faces to increase the frictional resistance between said lugs and assist the binding pivot screws in clamping or securing the said members of the arm at any desired adjustment. A spring catch 15 is provided with a pair of oppositely curved forwardly projecting spring arms and has a securing screw 16 which operates in t-he slot 12 of the inner member of the arm so that said clamp may be secured at any desired adjustment on the said arm.

The outer end of the pivot member of the arm is out-turned as at 17 and is provided with a lu 18 to fit between a pair of lugs 19 on a ring 20 which is secured at the upper end of the nose bag so as to hold the nose bag in extended position and keep the same from collapsing. A set screw 21 extends through alining openings in the said lugs and coacts with the said lugs to pivotally connect the nose bag to the outer member of the supporting arm and secure the same at any desired position with reference thereto either when the supporting arm is folded as shown in Fig. 2 or extended as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be understood from the foregoing and by reference to the drawings that the nose bag and its support are carried by one of the hames so that when the horse is to be fed, the nose bag may be utilized in a very short time and with minimum trouble and when the bag is not in use it may be folded up closely against the hame where it will be entirely out of the Way.

What is claimed is 1. The herein described nose bag sup porting device comprising a base element and an arm pivotally connected thereto, the said arm comprising inner and outer members pivotally joined together and foldable one upon the other, the said inner member having a longitudinal slot, a catch llaving oppositely curved forwardly projecting spring arms, and a securing screw for said Catch operating in the said slot of the inner member, said catch serving when the meme bers are folded together to engage and hold the outer member.

The herein described nose bag supporting device eomprising e. base element provided at its ends With a pair of fixed jaws to engage one side of a heme of a harness and at the Center With a movable jaw and an operating Screw for clamping said jaw against the opposite side of the heme, said base element being -further provided on its front side with a lug, a supporting arm comprising an inner and outer members pivotally joined together and foldable one upon the other, seid inner member being pivotally connected to the said lug of the said base member, and a nose bag having a, ring at its upper end said ring being pivotally connected to the outer end of the outer member, one of said members having a catch to engage the other to secure the said members together When folded.
