Be it known that We, CHARLES C. Srnne- LER and HENRY T. Smwar, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago, and Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois,'respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Appliances, of which the following is a specification.

'This invention relates to devices intended to be placed over the burner of a gas or similar stove, for the purpose of distributing the heat from said burner to a plurality of cooking utent The object of the invention is to improve the construction of such devices with the view to increasing their elliciency and simplicity and reducing their cost of manufacture.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top plan view of a heating appliance embodying the features of our invention. Fig. 2 is an underside view. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 of Fig. l. I That embodiment of the invention which is herein shown comprises a top plate 1 and a bottom plate 2, said plates being secured together by means such as rivets 3, and being spaced apart by a member 4. In this instance, the member -l is a strip of band iron held in place by the rivets 3 and constituting the side walls of-the device. The ends of themeinber 4 are secured together by means of one or more rivets The top plate 1, as herein shown, is larger than the lower plate to provide increased space for supporting the cooking utensils.

Centrally of the lower plate 2' is an opening (5 through which the heated gases from the-stove burner enter the device and in the upper plate 1 is a plurality of openings 7, in this instance, three, over which may be set cooking utensils etc. In order to space the utensil from the top plate a short distance so that said utensil will not prevent a draft throughjthe device, raised portions 8 are provided, said portions, in this instance, being integral with the top plate 1. A rivet 12 connects the apex of the deflector with the plate 1.- If desired, a plate 13 of heat-insulating mate rial may be placed between said deflector base and said plate 1, and the interior of the deflector may be filled with asbestos or other suitable insulating material.

Pivotally mounted in the side wall t is a damper 14 for cutting oil heat from, one of the openings 7 when such opening is not in use The top plate 1 may have openings 15 therein adapted to receive a litter of common form, guide lugs 16 struck down from said plate adjacent the opening 16 serving to hold the appliance steady with relation to said lifter.

We claim as our inventionz.

l. A heating appliance comprising two plates, the lower plate having an opening centrally thereof, the upper plate havinga plurality of openingstherein, side walls lying between said plates, means connecting said plates together, said connecting means holding said side walls in place, and a heat deflector of pyramidal form fixed to said upper plate above the opening in said lower plate, certain of said connecting means being positioned to hold the middle portions of said side walls inwardly toward said deflector, the sides of said deflector facing the openings in said upper plate and the corners of said deflector lying adjacent said inwardly extending portions of said side walls.

2. A heating appliance comprising two substantially triangular plates, the lower plate having an opening centrally thereof, the upper plate having an opening in each of its corners, side walls lying between said plates, means connecting said plates together, said connecting means holding said side walls in place, and a heat deflector of threesided pyramidal form fixed to said upper plate above the opening in said lower plate,

each of the sides of said deflector facing one low structure having an opening in its lower wall and a plurality of openings in its upper wall, the side walls of the structure extending inwardly toward the center of the structure at points between the upper openings, and a pyramidal heat deflector in said structure positioned so that each of the sides of said deflector will deflect heat entering the opening in the lower wall toward one of the openings in the upper Wall,
