CASE FOR HOLDING TALKIE'G-IIACHINE RECORDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May a, 1910.
Application filed February 19, 1909. Serial rte/Essie. Y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY G. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at "Woodbury, in the county of Gloucester and State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Cases for Holding Talking-Machine Records.
My invention relates to cases or portfolios for holding fiat talking machine records. Its leading purpose is to provide a simple, expansible construction having independently movable partitions, with means for controllingtheir movements and holding the records between them.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a portfolio embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is a sectional view representing details of the construction; Fig. 3 is a side view representing the improvements with a modified form of strap; Fi 4 is an end elevation of the portfolio; and Fig. 5 is a side elevation partially in section representing the improvements with a second modified form of strap.
The portfolio, as shown in the drawings, has a casing comprising the fiat base 1, the side 2 hinged to the base, the strut 3 hinged to the side 2, the side 4: hinged to the base, the cover 5 hinged to the side at, the flap 6 overlapping the side 2, the button 'I on the side 2 ior engaging the eyelet 8 in the flap 6, and the handle 9 secured to the top 5. Partitions or division cards 10 stand upon the base 1 between the sides 2 and 4c, and through the bottoms and ends of the sides and partitions pass the sets of alined apertures or eyelets 11 and 12. A; strap 13 passes through the set of eyelets 11 and hooks 1d on the ends of the strap engage heeperslfi fixed to the sides 2 and t. Elastic straps 16 passthrough the respective sets or" eyelets 12, and hoolrs'lY, similar to the hooks la, engage keepers, similar to the keepers 15, fixed to the sides. A single strap 18 (Fig. 8) having ends thereof extending through the eyelets 12, to connections by hooks 14; with keepers 15, may be used to provide a' greater len h of elastic material and a greater range oi expansion opening the case and separating the cards. The
ends of the straps passing through the eye-. lets may be providedwith loops 19 and held by pins 20 therein (Fig. 5) in lieu of the hooks 14 and keepers 15.
The base 1 and top 5 may be omitted and the portfolio or filing case thus adapted for expansion through an extended ran e, the
capacity being readily alterable by a tering 1 the length of the straps and inserting or withdrawing partitions. It will be understood that with the port; folio in the position shown in Fig. 1,;th'e
cards 10 can be separated for the insertion or Withdrawal of flat articles, as the talking machine records 21 shown in Fig. 4. The inelastic bottom strap and the elastic side straps, adapted to engage the peripheries of the disk shaped records, act to restore the sides to their normal position and draw together the movable parts oi. the case so that pressure will be exerted on the faces of the disksto prevent them from warping, the straps guiding andholding the parts of the portfolio and its contents.
While it is my leading purpose to provide a case or portfolio in which flat talk1ng'ma'-' chine records can be readily inserted, withv I drawn and handled, it is to be understood that the constructionis adapted and may be used for holding various other articles.
Having described my invention, I. claim:
1. A case having a base, sides hinged.
thereto, independent partitions supported by said. base and movable thereon between said sides, and fixed to said sides straps passing through the bottoms and ends of said partitions, said straps passin through the ends of said partitions being isposed in the median sections thereof.
2. An open ended case having a base, sides hinged to said base, a top hinged to one of said sides and having a flap adapted to engage the other of said sides, between said sides independent partitions having bottom and end eyelets extending therethrough, and
extending through said eyelets straps. detachably connected to said sides:
3. The combination ot a series er independent partitions, elastic straps connected with opposite edges of said'partitions, mem- Mama bars exierior i0 said partitions and com my name this 18th day of February, 1999, in nectred with semi straps, sald partlt-lons D8111? the presence of the subscnbmg Wnbnesses. movable indepfindantly of said straps, anc

En Witness whereof I have hereunto set JOB. Gr. DENNY, Jr.
