To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN EDWARD Honsr- MYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Runners for Clod-Crushers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates generally to clodcrushers, and particularly to a novel form of runner-attachment therefor.

The object of the invention is in a ready and practical manner to convert the crusher into a sled, whereby to utilize it for conveying articles to or from a field, and also to protect the rolls from unnecessary wear, when the implement is being transported from place to place.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction of a runner attachment for clod-crushers, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. a

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a clod-crusher showing the same equipped with the improvements of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of one of the shoes. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a portion of the shoe. Fig. 4; is a detail view of a yoke for securing the shoe to the runner. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through the crusher.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the runners or side bars of the crusher, 2 the platformtimbers that connect the runners, and 3 the rolls, and as these parts may be of the usual or any preferred construction, further description is deemed unnecessary.

The gist of the invention resides in the provision of shoes to be attached to the runners, to convert the implement into a sled. This is accomplished by the employment of metallic shoes 4, which are bent to conform to the shape of the under edge of the runners, and each of these has rigidly secured to it a wooden filler strip 5 to elevate the crush ing rolls above the ground. These rolls are free to revolve, so that in the event that they contact with an obstruction, when the sled is being drawn over the ground, no injury will result. The filler strips and shoes are held assembled in any preferred manner, as by bolts 6, which will permit separation of the parts for the purpose of replacing a new filler strip for one that has become damaged from any cause. The forward terminal of the shoe is provided with an eye 7 to engage a keeper 8 secured to the upper edge of the forward portion of the runner, that portion of the keeper engaged by the eye being upturned to prevent accidental disconnection between the parts. The rear terminal of the shoe is upturned to provide an abutment 9 that bears against the rear end of the runner, and is held against disconnection therefrom by a yoke 10, which straddles the abutment and runner and is held assembled with the latter by bolts 11.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the conversion of the crusher temporarily into a sled may be ,easily and quickly accomplished, so that the crushing roll will be protected against unnecessary wear, as when being drawn to or from a field. Moreover, when in sled form the crusher may be utilized to convey farming implements, such as plows, harrows and the like from a field.

It is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited in its application to the particular form of clod crusher shown, as it will be obvious that it may be used in connection with any form of such implement, and as such application will be read ily understood, detailed illustration of any modified form of clod-crusher is deemed unnecessary.

I claim:

The combination with the forward portion of the runners of a clod-crusher, of keepers projecting therefrom, shoes having their forward terminals provided with eyes to engage the keepers and their rear terminals upturned to provide abutments to engage the rear ends of the runners, yokes straddling the abutments and the runners and bolted to the latter, and filler-strips secured to the shoes to elevate the crushing rolls from the ground.
