To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I Louis E. lvm", a citizen of uw United sans, aiding in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have invented certain mprovements in Pi es, of which the following is a specicstion.
My invention relates to certain improvements in the ile and driving mechanism therefor, whi is fully illustrated and claimed in an aglication for tent tiled b me on March 1907, Seria No. 864,6 In the application alluded to the pile point is made in a single piece and the entire 'nt remains in tbe ground when the driving element is withdrawn.
The object of. the present invention is to arran a pile and driving mechanism connec therewithl in such a manner that a Kernen of the point can be removed with pile driving device. B this construction the entire length of the tubular pile as wel] as the pound under the pile, and if necessary the d dan be further excavated so that the oundetion rockcsnbebaredtoenabletheconcreteto rest directly upon the rock.
My invention is articularly adapted for deep ile work ancipiles for this work are usualy)1 of auch diameter that a man can be lowered into the pile to ex'cavate the ground, and to examine the pile if desired, before the concrete filling is placed in the tubular pile In the accompan drawingaz-Figure 1, is a sectional view owing my improved pile and driv' form rtly driven in the jound; Fig. 2, is a section on the line 2 2,
g. 1; Fig. 8, is a 've 'view of the detachable inner um the point; Fig. 4, is a view of the nent outer section ofthe point; F' i5, is a sectional view showing the pile after it is filled with concrete; Fig. 6 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 1, with the exception that the water pipe is shown so that a water jet can be used to aid in driving the pile into the und; Fl 7z is a view of a modification o Fig. 6, and Fi 8, is a view showing the lower section o the hollow cylindrical pile attached to the permanent point section.
A' is the tubular shell of the pile made of concrete, prcferabl reinforced in any ordinary manner. is shell is made in sections a', which are preferably coupled so eeeattea of letters Patent.

that one section will aline with another as mentioned in the aforesaid application.
B is the driving pointl or penetrating element made in two sections B', B. The outer section B is the permanent section and is iii the forni of a ring and it is this section which is left in the ground lifter the ile is driven. The inner section li is prefers ly attached to a tubular drivin form D, either b rivets, as shown at d ig. 1, or screw read es illustrated in 6, so thnt it can be removed with the diivi form, and tho two constitute the driving e ement. In thc present instance the section B has an internal shoulder b u `which rests a ll b' of the section as clearly shown in Fig. 1 and the opening in the section B is preferably ta to correspond with the taper of the- 'on B' lo that as the drivi form with the Movable point section t o the point is driven into the ground it carries with it the ring section B.
It will be noticed that the section B is greater in diameter than the tubular concrete pile section A so'as to materially df:- crease the skin friction on the tubular pile as it is driven and tile ring section also protects the fragile concrete pile. The pile sections are held to the drivi form D buy a clamp ring C which is vertice y iadjustali e on the drivin form D.
E is the driving head having a Bange e, which, in the resent instance, enters the driving forni and holds it central and carries a block E' which receives the blow of the hammer of the pile driver.
It will lie' understood that the drivin@ form D may be /oi' any len desired and if required may be made in sections and the sections coupled together in any suitable manner.
It will be seen by the ubove construction that the tubular pi e sections A are placed in position around the driving-forni; lower section restin upon the ring section B' of the point B an these sections are held in position by the clamp ring C. The r is simply to insure the cur u sections into the ground wi i t Ae point and the ring is so adjusted as to relieve the pile sections from the blow of the hammer ne niucli iis possible.
