COAL AND ORE CRUSHER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. SAUERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Russellville, county of Pope, State of Ar kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coal and Ore Crushers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to ore and coal crushing machines, and is designed as an improvement on the machine shown described, and claimed in Letters Patent of the United States No. 814,085, granted to me under date of March 6, 1906.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a machine in which two oppositely disposed stationary back-plates are employed, in combination with two reciprocating or swinging crusher-heads, and novel means for simultaneously operating both crusher heads from a single power shaft.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter, in connection with the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification and its novel features will be defined in the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan View of a machine embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, parts being indicated by dotted lines, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the in'lproved machine.
The sides 1 of the frame of the machine are connected at their ends by transverse bars 2, and centrally by a beam 3 of trian gular form the latter serving as a support for the upper ends of the metal bars 4 which constitute the inclined backing plates of the machine. The lower ends of the bars 4 are supported upon substantially V-shaped beams 5 secured to the sides of the frame. The bars A are mounted upon rods 6 passing through openings in the bars, and to separate the bars, so that the finer particles of ore may pass between them, washers 7 are strung upon the rods 6 to space the bars apart. The size and numbers of these washers may be varied, to vary the width of the spaces between the bars. A transverse shaft 8 supported in bearings of the frame is arranged centrally of the length of the frame and projects beyond the sides thereof. Upon one end of the shaft 8 is mounted a fly wheel 9 and upon the opposite end thereof is a driving pulley 10, said wheel and pul Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 4, 1909.
Patented Apr. 19, 1910. Serial No. 531,427.
ley being secured by keys 11. Upon the shaft 8, between the sides of the machine frame and the fiy wheel and driving pulley are mounted eccentrics 12 two at each side of the machine in the relation shown in Fig. 2. Around each of said eccentrics is a two-part strap 13 provided with abutting lugs let formed with openings to receive the inner ends of connecting rods 15 of which there are four at each side of the machine, secured by nuts 16.
At each end of the machine is pivotally secured a crusher head 17 each provided with depending ears 18 formed with openings to receive a shaft 19, the ends of which extend into longitudinally slotted journal boxes 20. These shafts 19 are adjustably held within the boxes by a plurality of interlocking packing washers 21, and to prevent undue jar in the movement of the swinging crusher heads, coil springs 22 are arranged within the journal boxes between the ends of the shaft and the washers. Adjusting screws 23 extend through the outer ends of the boxes 20 to adjust the nuts and tension the springs 22. The crusher heads are provided with headed teeth 21 extending through the heads and adjacent to the upper edge of each crusher head is secured a shaft 25 upon the ends of which are arranged sleeves 26 provided with bearings 27 for the outer ends of the driving rods 15, which are secured by nuts 28.
The operation of the mechanism constructed as thus described will be readily understood. The material to be operated upon is fed between the opposite inclined backing plates made up of the spaced bars 4; and the crusher heads. WVhen the shaft 8 is revolved the two crusher heads are forced inward to crush the ore, coal, or other material, and then outward through the intermediary of the eccentrics and the rods 15.
As the two crusher heads operate simultaneously the maximum capacity of the machine is attained from a single power shaft.
The finer particles of ore or coal will drop through the spaces between the bars, and be discharged through an opening in the bottom of the frame.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an ore crushing machine, the combination with a frame, of two oppositely inclined back plates consisting of spaced bars, transverse supports for said plates, two crusher heads pivotally supported atopposite ends of said frame, means for simultaneously reciprocating said crusher heads, and means for adjusting the pivotal supports of said crusher heads comprising journal boxes, packing washers and springs within said boxes and screws bearing against the outer 10 washers.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
