.. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jams P. RerNnAn'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadel hia, in the county of Philadel phia and3 State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relates to an improved toy, the object of the invention being to provide an improved toy which will be ornamental and attractive in appearance, cheap to manufacture, simple in construction and easily operated by a child to cause figures to re Vvolvo or turn somersaults.

is a. view in side elevation illustrating my improvements, and Fig. 2, is a view in side elevation taken at lright angles to Fig. 1.
1 represents a tubular hand-hold to which, at one end, and at one side of its bore 2,
a long bar 3 is made integral and provided with a longitudinal slot 4, and made v-fzth E gear teeth at opposite sides of the slot, forming racks 5.
6 represents a block having a tongmc portionl 7, projecting through the slo. 4 and f' having a bearin are secured on s aft 8 at opposite sides of ton e 7 and mesh with the teeth ofracks 5. illocks 9 are fixed to-the ends 0f shaft 8, and ornamental fi res l0 are secured upon the blocks. VVhiIe of course I .do not restrict myself to the particular figures shown I preferably seat figures like the well known Teddy bear on one block and Billiken i on the other. A rod 11 is mounted to slide in the bore 2 of hand-hold 1 and is secured at one end to block 6, and a handle 12 is secured on the other-end of the rod 11 at the opposite end of hand-hold 1, and a bell 13 is preferabl secured to block 6 so as to sound when the iilock is moved.

I; nions 9 i The toy may he ornamented in variousways and various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, hence I do'not restrict myself to. the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new an'd desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A. toy, comprising a rack, a figure., a pinion meshing with the rack and secured to turn lwith the figure, and means for moving said rack and pinion in opposite directions to turn the. ligure.
2. .L toy, comprising a. rack, a block, means for reciprocating the block, a shaft in the block, a pinion on the shaft meshing with the rack, and a figure secured on the shaft.
3. A toy, comprising a. rack, a block, means for reciprocating the block, a shaft projecting through the block, figures secured on the ends of the shaft, and a pinion on the shaft meshing with the rack.
4. A toy, comprising a tubular hand-hold,
