RICHARD GEORGE ZAI-IALAN, OF NEW LISKEARD, ONTARIO, CANADA.
HOTEL-INDICATOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, R101-IARD GEORGE ZAHALAN, of New Liskeard, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hotel- Indi cators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an indicator for hotels by which it can be as* certained at a glance which rooms are vacant and which are occupied and which guests require to be called and the time.
The invention may be said briey to consist of a plurality of disks with a calling time indicator on one side, such disks being pivoted in a face plate and each having a thumb wheel whereby it is turned to expose either side. For full comprehension, however, of my invention reference must be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specilication, in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein- Figure l illustrates my improved hotel indicator in elevation; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line A, A Fig. l; Figs. 3 and 4 are detail horizontal and vertical sectional views, respectively, taken on lines B, B, and C, C, Fig. 5; Fig. 5 is a detail face view of a portion of my improved indicator and one of the disks; Fig. 6 is a detail view of one of the disks illustrating particularly the reverse side t-hereof and the means by which it is operated; Fig. 7 is a detail elevation of a portion of the rear of the face plate with one of the apertures, the disk being removed.
The face plate b is mounted in a frame c, such plate having a series of rows of apertures CZ having diametrically oppositely arranged recesses e and a slot f extending at right angles to and at the end of one of such recesses.
Each aperture has mounted therein a disk 7c having trunnions m lying in the recesses e, a knurled finger wheel a upon the end of one of the trunnions tting rotatably in the slot 7 with a portion of its knurled edge protruding beyond the face of the plate while a pair of straps retain the trunnions against isplacement, and a spring t as a tension device for yieldingly retaining the disk with Specification of Letters Patent.

either face exposed. The trunnion is cut away as at m (Fig. 6) and the spring bears upon its reduced port-ion, thus preventing longitudinal displacement of the said trunnion. Each side of each disk bears the number of a room and one side has, in addition, a dial u and pointer o, a thumb piece o being provided to turn the pointer.
A call bell in each room is connected to a push button fw at one side of the disk bearing a number corresponding to that of the room. This indicator is furnished with as many disks and call buttons as there are rooms in the hotel, may be hung upon the wall of the office, or supported by an independent stand, and is preferably situated near the usual receptacle for the keys.
Vhen application is made to the oflice for a room, the clerk can ascertain from the indicator at a glance which rooms are vacant, and when the guest decides upon a room the disk of such room is turned by the clerk drawing his finger downwardly over the wheel n, and upwardly when the room is vacated.
As the guests instruct to be called in the morning at any particular time the clerk sets the pointer of the respective disks, which enable the required calls to be also ascertained at a glance.
The frame c is preferably of rectangular form and supported by an inclosing frame 2O between which and the frame c strips 2l extend such strips forming with the main frames a series of smaller frames in which advertisements may be mounted.
What I claim is as follows A hotel indicator comprising a face plate havin() a plurality of apertures with disks rotatably set therein, each disk having a dial and pointer upon one side, each disk having diametrically opposite trunnions bearing on the face plate, a fixed strap and resilient strap retaining the trunnions in place, and a knurled finger wheel carried rigidly upon one trunnion of each disk.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD GEORGE ZAHALAN.
