UNITED STATES HENRY J. GAISMAN, QF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION or NEW YORK.
'ro lantro s'raor coizrrrmv,- or
sHAvING snr.
To all' whom i may concem:
Be it known that I, HENRY a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving Sets, of
J. GAIsMAN,
which the following isa specilication.
Shaving sets or outfits of certain kinds are sold comprising a box 1n which the razor and a strop are placed, which strop t `is removable from the box, for use, and it may happen that the user will neglect to replace the strop in the box and .thereby the strop may become lost or misleid.
The object of my invention is to provide means to prevent the box from being'fully closed unless the strop is box, whereby to indicate to the user that the strop has not been replaced in the box.
In carryingy out my invention I provide a box having a 'movable or hinged portion or cover, with means'thatwill prevent the complete closing of the movable portion or cover if the strop is not in position, the strop serving" to hold suoli means in an .inactive position when the strop is in its proper place'in the box or cover. In the embodiment of my invention illustrated I haveshown the box cover provided with a' space or compartment to receive a folded strop` and having-in such space a movable -or swiveled arm or lever adapted to swing transversely of thebox when the strop is absent and thereby engage the razor or a portion of the 'box la;nd,r revent closing of the box, the arm or lever being held-in an inactive position when the strop is in place, whereby if the user places the razor in the box and omits the strop in its proper place the cover willnot close, thus indicating to Ahim the olnission of the strop, whereupon he will' insert the strop in the cover and thereby swing the arm or `lever in position 4to permit the full closing of the box.
replaced in thev Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A111. 5, 1910. Application led June 18, 1908. Serial No., 502,885.
nient 3 provided between walls 4 anda bottom piece 5, the handle of the razor resting strop-A is adapted to be placed when folded, v as shown in Fig. l. 'At 6 is a swinging' arm or lever pivotally su ported. within Y cover l:El in such position t at strop A may be passed under the arm or lever to hold the same substantially parallel with the strop and the cover when the strop is in position, as indicated in Fig. 1. Said arm or lever is shown mounted to rock upon a rod 7 carrier by cover la, as bypassing through ears 6a on arm or lever 6.y At 6b the arm or lever 6 has a projection so arranged that when the arm Or lever` extends transversely of the cover, as in Fig. 2, said projection 6b will' "engage handle 2a of the razor and prevent the cover from being fully closed, as in Fig. 2, although the projection 6b can be in such position ask to engage one oflthe walls 4 to prevent closing of. the cover. At 8" is a spring interposed between cover 1 and-arm Orlever Gand so arranged as to tend to cause arm or lever 6 to extend transversely oi" the cover, the projection or finger piece 6c of arm-or lever 6 being adapted to engage the top of the cover when swung by spring 8 to limit the swinging movement of arm or lever 6 and hold projection 6" in an outward position. r y
YVhen the strop isto be inserted in placeA it is folded, arm or lever 6 is swung substanl tially parallel with the top of the cover, the folded strop is pushed into the compartment of the cover andunder arm or lever 6 to 'hold the same substantially parallel with the strop, so that the projection'6b-wi1l not engage the razor handle or wall 4, but when the strop is pulled out of the compartment of the lid the spring 8 will-cause arm or lever 6 to swing around 'as in Fig. 2 so that the projectionk 6b will extendforwardly, and
thu/s if the strop is not replaced and the cover is swung over it cannot be fully closed, thereby indicating to the user the omission of the strop, whereupon he will placeth'e strop in the cover and thus necessarily swing arm or lever 6 to permit closing of the box.
The cover 1a may be hinged at one side to the box, as at 9, and any suitable fastening devices 1 0, v11 may be provided for'holding' the cover closed.
uheld by the strop Having now described my invention what I claim 1s:-
l. A shaving set comprising a bo'x provided with a movable portion, and having a strop-controlled member movable relatively to the box, arranged to prevent closing of the box in the absence of the strop.
2. A shaving set comprising a box having a movable portion and provided with a swinging element adapted to abut between the members of the box to prevent closing the same in the absence of a strop and ada ted to be lheld in inoperative position by t e strop.
31 A shaving set comprising a box having a movable member, and a swinging arm adapted to prevent closing of the box parts when in one position and arranged to be in operative position to permit closing or the box.
4. A shaving set comprising a box adapted to contain a razor and having a cover,
and a swinging element carried by the cover and provided with means to prevent closing of the cover in the absence of a strop and arranofed to be engaged by a strop t0 be held out o? operative position.
5. A shaving set comprising a box adaptled to contain a razor and provided with a ried by the cover and provided with a. projection adapted to engage an abutment in the box to prevent closing the cover in the absence of a strop, said member being arranged to be held in inoperative position by a strop placed in the cover. 1
Y 7. A shaving-set comprising a boxvadapted to contain a razor and having a cover provided with a. compartment, and a member pivotally carried by the cover providing a space to receive a strop, said member having projections on opposite sides of its axis, one of said projections being arranged to extend outwardly `of the cover to prevent closing the same in the 'absence of a strop, the other projection being adapted to coact with the strop to hold the member in inoperative position.
8. A shaving set comprising a box adapt-- ed to receive a razor and having a cover provided with a compartment, a member pivotally supported in said cover providing a space `to receive a strop, said member having projections on opposite sides of its axis, oneof said projections being adapted to engage the top of the cover, the other projection being adapted to extend outwardly from the -cover to prevent closing the cover in the absence of a strop, and a spring tend ing normally to hold the movable member in a position transversely or' the cover.
9. A shaving set comprising a box adapted to contain a razorand provided with a cover having a compartment to receive a strop, a movable member pivotally supported by the cover, and a spring tending normally to hold the movable member in a position transverse of the cover, said memer having a. projection to prevent closing of the cover in the absenceof a strop.
