BARREL-HOSP.
.assess Application filed November 28. 1905.
ll'o all whom it' may concern;
Be it known that l, Rionixnn riCGarrnv, a citizen of the United States. residing` at Superior, in the county of louglas and State of lfvilisconsin, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Hoop; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear7 and exact description of the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to malte and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in barrel hoops and has for its object to pro-L vide an improved barrel hoop designed pecially to save time in placing the same on barrels.
Another object of the invention is to provide strong and firm barrel hoop which can be readily applied to barrels, kegs and the like, and hele there without the use of nails.
lilith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
ln the drawings, Figure l is a side eleva tion of a barrel showing my improved hoops applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the ends of the hoop. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the inner face of the connecting portion of the hoop. F ig. ile is a longitudinal sectional view tal-:en through the tongue 2.
Referring to the drawings7 l designates a barrel or keg of the ordinary construction having my improved metallic hoops applied thereto. @ne of the ends of each hoop is provided with a reduced portion or tongue 2 which passes through slots 3 and 3a, after Specification of Letters Patent.
ilaitented hier. 2%?, t.
Serial No. 464,884.
which it is bent upon itself.y as shown in Fig. lr of the drawings. rlhus when it is bent. the two ends are firmly locked together as will. be readily understood. ln order to insure accuracyin gaging the size of the hoop, the tongue 2 is provided with graduations 2a' whereby the exact size of the hoop maybe determinefjl by the point at which the bend is made. In order to reinforce the tongue and hold the saine against lateral movement.A longitudinally extending iingers rt and 7) are provided on either side of said tongue.y as will be readily understood. rlhc tapered edges of the hoops are provided with overlapping flanges 5 forn'iing a thickened edge therefor and enabling the saine to be readily driven on the barrels.
After the hoops have been forced into the desired position7 the saine are designed to be indented, as shown at el which prevents the displacementof said hoops.
iVhat is claimed iis:-
A metal barrel hoop comprising a body having a flanged edge and formed on one of its ends with a plurality of spaced slots and a tongue on its other end designed to enter the slots and be bent upon itself, the tongue being provided with graduations, whereby the circumference of a barrel may be incasured, the second named end being provided with longitudinally extending fingers adapted to reinforce the tongue.
n testimony whereof l have signed my .name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
