To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD B. Rims, citizen of the United States, residing at Monett, in the county of Barry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pool-Registers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to registers and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive device of this character especially designed for use in pool or billiard halls, bowling alleys and similar places, and by means of which the proprietors of such places may readily ascertain the total receipts resulting from the hire of the tables or alleys to the various players during the course of a working day.

A further object of the invention is to provide a tally or register including a casing having spaced compartments, each of which contains a record sheet or roll, said record sheets being adapted to be severed in predetermined lengths and issued to the players in the form of checks or tickets, upon which is printed the price of a game and the total amount taken in by the proprietor at the time that particular game is played.

A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability, and efliciency.

Further objects and advantages will appear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims' For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a' knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pool register constructed in accordance with my invention, the movable cutter or slide being shown in position to sever the record strips; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, portions of the casing being broken away to more clearly show the interior construction of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing the plate or cutter retracted to expose the free ends of the record strips; Fig. l is a plan view of a portion of one of the record sheets.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The improved register forming the subject matter of the present invention includes a casing or housing 5 preferably cylindrical in form as shown, and provided with a transverse partition 6 dividing the easing into two compartments 7 and 8, each of which is adapted to contain a record sheet or roll, indicated at 9. The adjacent longitudinal edges of the metal forming the casing or housing 5, is spaced apart to produce an opening 10, one end of the metal being offset at 11 and extended transversely across the opening 10 to form a table or support 12, the terminal of which is bent downwardly and inwardly and soldered or otherwise rigidly secured to the exterior wall of the casing, as shown. The opposite sides of the table or support 12 are bent inwardly to form guide flanges 13, in which is slidably mounted a plate or cutter 14, one end of which is bent upon itself to produce a terminal roll or finger-piece 15, while the other end thereof is provided with a cutting edge 16 adapted to register with the adjacent end of the table or support 12 for the purpose of cutting or severing the record sheets or rolls in predetermined lengths. Spaced inwardly from the forward longitudinal edge 17 of the table 12, are oppositely disposed slots 18 through which the free ends of the record sheets 9 project, said slots being separated by an intermediate web so as to prevent the strips of paper from coming into contact with each other. Each record sheet or strip, is stamped, printed, or otherwise provided with spaced columns of numerals, the numerals in one column of each strip indicating the price of a game, and the numerals in the other column of each strip indicating the total amount taken in by the proprietor up to the time that any particular game is played, so that when any particular check or ticket is issued to a player, the proprietor or attendant of the pool room by merely adding the price of the game indicated in one column to the amount indicated in the other column, can readily ascertain the total receipts up to and including the particular game being played.

In operation, the proprietor 0r attendant grasps the projecting end of either record sheet, according to the particular game being played, and pulls the same outwardly far enough for one of the division lines to register with the forward edge of the platform or table 12, after which the plate or cutter l l is moved longitudinally within the guide flanges until the cutting edge thereof also registers with the forward edge of the table, and in which position the attendant may readily sever the record strip so that a predetermined length thereof may be presented to the player in the form of a check or ticket.

Attention is here called to the fact that the slots 18 are so positioned with respect to the forward edge 17 of the table, that when the plate or cutter 1a is withdrawn so as to expose said slots, a small portion of the record sheet will remain projecting through the adjacent slot so that the same may be readily grasped by the operator when it is desired to issue another check or ticket.

Each record receiving compartment is provided with a suitable cap or closure 19 having an opening formed therein for the threaded end of a transverse shaft 20 there being a clamping nut 21 engaging the threads at each end of the shaft and bearing against tae adjacent cap or closure for locking the latter in closed position. Thus it will be seen that by removing the caps or closures 19, a. new record sheet or roll may be rear ily positioned within the compartments, he flanges of the caps 19 serving to act as par tial closures for the opening 10, thereby to prevent the latter from being exposed.

The registers may be made in different sizes and shapes and provided with any number of compartments for the reception of record sheets, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Havin thus described the invention, what claimed as new is:

'l. A device of the character described including a casing having an opening formed therein. a table secured to the casini and extending across said opening said table being provided with a slot spaced inwardly from one edge of the table, a record sheet disposed within the casing and having one end thereof projecting through the slot in the table, and a plate slidably mounted on the table and adapted to register with one end thereof or severing the sheet into predetermined lengths.

3. A device of the character described including a casing having an openin forn'icd therein, one wall of the casing being offset and extended across said opening to form a table haying a slot spaced inwardly from one end thereof, a record sheet disposed within the casing and having one end thereof ex tended through said slot, and a plate slidably mounted on the table and provided with a cutting edge adapted to register with one end of the table for severing the record strip into predetermined lengths.
