NEVIN BUFFINGTON LE FEVRE, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
PORTABLE ELECTRIC-MASSAGING AND LIKE APPARATUS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEVIN BUFFINGTON Ln Fnvnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 1 Cranworth Gardens, BriXton, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable Electric-Massaging and Like Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to improvements in connection with portable electric massaging and like apparatus, and it consists in an apparatus wherein the instrument to be usedfor example a massaging instrument, an electric brush or the likemay be manipulated by a person other than the person being operated on and in which the person operated on may regulate the strength of the current or cut off the current at will, and further inwhich the person operated on may to some extent be able to follow ocularly the operation or manipulation of the instrument as well as the effect or the result of such operation, a feature of my improved apparatus being that the battery and coil-employed are held by the person operated on, the said coil and battery being contained in a casing having the form of a handle on which I mount a mirror or mirrors.
I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows that part of the apparatus which is intended to be held in the hand by the person being operated on and comprises the battery, coil and mirrors, the front mirror being removed to enable the coil to be seen: and Fig. 2 shows the massaging or like instrument, which may be manipulated either by the person himself, or herself, who is holding the battery part of the apparatus, or by an operator. Fig. 3 is a rear view of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing: A indicates a Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 27, 1908.
Patented Mar. 15, 1910.
Serial No. 445,520.
metallic casing adapted to he held in one hand and in the handle part of which a dry battery B is mounted. In the up er part of the said casing, a coil C provic ed with a current regulating sleeve E is mounted on a plate D of insulating material which is secured in the casing by means of lugs d. The said battery and coil may be of any suitable construction. The sleeve E can be withdrawn from the casing A as far as the stop 0 will permit: in the drawing it is shown pulled out about half-way. A spring F mounted on the insulated plate D and electrically connected with the coil completes the circuit when depressed to make contact with the casing A. The coil is electrically connected on the other hand with an insulated terminal G mounted on the said casing, and a wire 4/) forms the connection with the massaging or like instrument H, the handle it of which is insulated. On the front and also if desired on the back of the upper part of the casing A I mount a mirror M, one of the said mirrors being preferably a magnifier to enable wrinkles to be readily observed.
I claim:
A portable apparatus for use in massaging and like operations, consisting in combination of an electric battery and coil mounted in a metallic casing which is adapted to be held in one hand by the person being operated upon, a mirror or mirrors mounted on the said casing, a massaging or like instrument mounted on an insulated handle and detachably connected by means of a flexible wire to a terminal mounted on the said casing, and means mounted on the said casing for interrupting the circuit and regulating the strength of the current at will.
