Description

(54) IMPROVED HAIR DRYING EQUIPMENT (71) We, HANDYDRIER PRODUCTS LIMITED, a company incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Ireland, of 19 Brighton Square, Dublin 6, Ireland, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to hair drying equipment.
According to the invention there is provided hair drying equipment, comprising a housing connecting by a flexible electrical lead to an electrically operated hand-held hair drying device movable manually independently of the housing to dry hair, the housing providing ex- ternally thereof support means for the hair drying device when the latter is not in use. Thus using the invention it is possible to provide hair drying equipment which will be suitable for use in hotel rooms, changing rooms for sports, and other establishments where hair drying facilities might usefully be made available.
The housing may advantageously contain means which enables the electrically operated hair drying device to be operated, and electrical connections for the electrically operated hair drying device.
Ideally, the support means for the hair drying device may be integral with the housing, and may take the form of a recess in the housing in which the hair drying device fits wholly or partially.
The housing also advantageously supports a mirror which may fit into an indentation in the housing.
In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the housing may include a moulding of fibreglass, plastics or other material, the moulding incorporating a recess which provides the support means for the hair drying device. The moulding is ideally associated with a back plate which is adapted to be screwed or otherwise secured to a wall and upon which back plate the electrical connections are advantageously mounted. The moulding may then be fitted over the back plate and may be screwed or otherwise additionally secured to the back plate.
The electrical lead between the connections and the hair drying device may be reinforced preferably by transparent non-kink tubing or other means.
The recess may be located beneath the mirror and is advantageously shaped to enable the hair drying device, or a substantial part thereof, to fit into the recess for the hair drying device.
Hair drying equipment embodying the invention is hereinafter described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the equipment showing a conventional hair drying device or appliance in position in the recess in the housing; Figure 2 is a side elevation of the equipment; Figure 3 is a plan view of the equipment Figure 4 is a perspective view of the equipment; and Figure 5 is a further perspective view, showing the back plate separated from the remainder of the housing.
Referring to the drawings, the hair drying equipment shown comprises a housing which has a front face 1 and a back plate 4. Supported on the back plate 4 is a junction box 5 which supports electrical connections (not shown) for a conventional electrically operated hair drying device or appliance 2. The electrical leads from the junction box 5 to the device 2 pass through a flexible conduit 3. Electrical leads to the junction box 5 pass through a conduit 6 and through an aperture 7 in the back plate 4 so that the leads to the junction box 5 may be connected to an electrical supply (see Figure 5).
The back plate 4 may be screwed or otherwise secured to a support (not shown) for the equipment, apertures 8 being provided to enable the back plate 4 to be screwed to the support.
The back plate 4 has forwardly directed (as considered in use) walls 12 over which fit rearwardly directed (as considered in use) walls 14 of the front face 1 of the housing so as to secure the front face 1 on the back plate 4.
The front face 1 has an indentation 15 in which is supported a mirror 20. The lower portion of the front face 1 of the housing has support means in the form of a recess 16 into which fits and in which is supported the conventional hair drying device 2. The recess 16 provides a cutaway 17 through which depends the handle 18 of the hair drying device 2. In the recess 16 are provided stop-members 19 which assist in the retention in the recess 16 of the hair drying device 2. When it is desired to remove the hair drying device 2 from the recess 16, it is merely necessary to lift the device 2 relative to the stop-members 19 and then move the device 2 outwardly relative to the housing.
A coin freed mechanism may also be included in the housing of the embodiment shown in the accompanying drawings so that the hair drying device may only be operated for a specific time period on insertion of a coin or token into the coin freed mechanism.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. Hair drying equipment, comprising a housing connected by a flexible electrical lead to an electrically operated hand-held drying device movable manually independently of the housing to dry hair, the housing providing externally thereof support means for the hair drying device when the latter is not in use.
2. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 1, in which the housing contains, or is adapted to contain, means which enables the hair drying device to be operated.
3. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 2, in which the housing contains or is adapted to contain, electrical connections for the electrically operated hair drying device.
4. Hair drying equipment, as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 3, in which the support means for the hair drying device is integral with the housing.
5. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 4, in which the support means is a recess in the housing in which the hair drying device wholly or partially fits.
6. Hair drying equipment as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the housing supports, or is adapted to support, a mirror.
7. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 6, in which the mirror is supported in an indentation in the front face of the housing.
8. Hair drying equipment as claimed in any of Claims 5 to 7, in which the recess is shaped to enable the whole, or a substantial part, of the hair drying device to fit into the recess and to be supportedby the housing.
9. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 8, in which the hair drying device has a handle portion which extends from the recess when the hair drying device is located in the recess.
10. Hair drying equipment as claimed in any of Claims 6 to 9 in which the housing includes a moulding in which is formed the indentation for the mirror and the recess for the hair drying device.
11. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 10, in which the moulding is adapted to fit over and to be secured-to a back plate.
12. Hair drying equipment as claimed in Claim 11 , in which the electrical connections are adapted to be mounted upon the back plate which is adapted to be secured to a wall or other support for the housing.
13. Hair drying equipment as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the hair drying device is a conventional hair drying appliance located outside the housing.
14. Hair drying equipment as claimed in any preceding claim, operable upon actuation of a coin or token freed mechanism.
15. Hair drying equipment substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
