A. M. LOUGHNBY. ABDOMINAL PAT REDUCING APPLIANCE. APPLIOATION FILED JULY 1, 1909.

I 7 WITNESSES: Z0 INVENTOR.
. 7 B! '/W. 71 1. $1M. ag/ 44 ATTORNEY K ED STATES PATENT onn on- ALBERT LOUGHNEY, OFSEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
AianoMmAL-r r-minuciive APPLIANCE.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ALBERT M. LOUGHNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle,in the county of King and State of- Washington, have invented certain new and promote a hyperemic condition of the blood to assist in the eradication of accumulations of adipose tissue. a A further object is to exercise the body in and about the abdominal regions to strengthen 'the evacuatory functions and thus render the body more healthful by the elimination of the poisonous secretions therefrom.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, cgmbination and arrangement of parts, as'will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1- is a side elevation of an embodiment of my invention applied to a patient; Fig. 2 is a' longitudinal vertical section of the device Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken through of Fig. 2; and Fig. '4: is an underside plan view.
In the drawings, the reference numeral .5 designates the body of the device which is comprised of a frame having two parallel side rails 6 connected by transversely arranged bars 7. Said rails are each of a substantially rocker-shape with the. underside edge formed to have the curved forward portion 8 oifsetfrom the curved rearward portion 9 and which portions are intermediately connected by a portion 10; having a compound curve. ecured to the underside of said frame and conformin to the above explained configuration of t e correspondin edges of the side rails, as shown in Fig.
'2, is a webll which thus afiords two convex surfaces 12'and 13' with a'concave surface 14 'therebetween. At the front of the web is a recess 15. 4
' Fixedly secured to the rails in roxim'ity of the front, or head end, of the rame are shoulder straps 16 and 17 which are ar- Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 1, 1909. Serial ,No. 505,372.
ranged to cross each other below the web, as best. shown in Fig. 4; and, for adjustment Patented Mar. s, 1910. i
purposes, are each desirably formed of two parts which are coupled bybuckles 16 and 17 or in any other suitable manner. Ad-
jacent to the rear of the device is a legstra 18 formed of two parts which are connected from therespe'ctive side r-ai1s-and, as illustrated, are adjustabl 19. Hand-gripping l lent, are secured to the opposite sides of the, frame. i 1 21 represents a socket-member which'is coupledby a buckle oops; 20, or an equivarigidly secured to the frame, or to the web 11, to accommodate a handle-bar 22 whereby 7o- 7 the rocking movements of the device are ac-"i complished.
The device is applied to the body of apatient by placingthe web 11 thereof against his back and by securing the same with the =shoulder-straps"16. and 17. extending across his breast and about'his shoulders; while the leg strap 18 is engaged about the patients thighs, as represented in lFi 1.
With the device in this position the patients so back and legs will respectivel fit against Y the web surfaces 12 and 13 an his buttock fit with'the concave web-surface 14. The
patient being thus connected with the device is placed face downward upon. the floor 23 of a room, extending his neck within the. recess 15 and grasping the loops 20 in his hands.
An operator then manipulates the device with the handlebar-(22 to cause the rocking in" unison of the patient and the apparatus either 'sidewise or in longitudinal directions,
or utilizing both such movements alternately, or in any other' desired manner, with the part of the patients body which is to be rocking motions, theafiectedlpart of the patient undergoes'a' sort of massage treatment to afiord beneficial exercise to not only effect the removal of excessive fat but likewise afi'ordin'g an invigorating efiect to the various organs of the abdominal re "on, and-promoting the peristaltic action 0 the stomach tion of the same.
The hyperemic condition ensuing from treatment with this device serves to dissipate the adi ose tissue which is accumulated about thea domen, at once invi crating a healthful action of the bowels an removing undue strain upon the heart and kidneys.
treated bearing upon the. floor. By such 1 in o and intestines toproduce a healthy condi- @What I claim as my invention, is
I 1. An abdominal-fat reducing a pliance comprising a frame havin side rai s and a web secured to the underside of the frame, said web being provided with a recess at one end, Shoulder stra s secured to the frame adjacent to one en of the same, a leg strap secured to the frame adjacent to the other end of the frame, hand gripping means se-, cured to the sides of the frame, and means by which said frame may be rocked to af-v ford a massage treatment to ,a "persons abdomen.
2.- An abdominal fat reducing appliance comprising a frame provided with a Web upon its underside which is arranged to afford two-convex curved surfaces WhlCh are Q'ofl'wt with respect to each other, means by which a person may-be secured beneath said frame so that his back and legs will respectively contact with said convex surfaces and his abdomen will contact with-a horizontal supporting surface, and a handle by which said frame may be rocked.
3. An-abdominabfat reducing appliance. comprised of a frame provided with a web havin'g a'convez'r curved surface upon its" underside, means by which a person may be secured in a curved osition beneath the frame and against said web, and means by which the frame may e rocked.
4. An abdominal fat reducing appliance, comprising a convex bottom portion, devices by which a person may be secured against said convex bottom so that his abdomen will contact with a floor, and meansby-which the person and the said frame may be rocked in unison. s 5. An abdominal -fat reducing a pliance comprising a frame having side rails and a web secured to the underside of the frame, said web being provided with a recess at one end, means by which a person may be secured to the underside of said web, and means by which said devices may be rocked to afford a massage treatment to the persons abdomen.
