elevation of the cylinder'on the column the ber concentric therewith adapted to slid- .connections therewith actuate the plunger with the corresponding tappetlthereon to suddenly move the arm and fully open the exhaust valve that the cylinder may quickly descend and contact-with the anvil. The descentof the cylinder actuates the same connections to permit the sudden closing of the exhaust valve and to openthe inlet valve more gradually for forcing thecylinder in an upward direction again. By means of the adjustable connection of the slotted arm with the table-flange, the stroke of the cylinder may be increased or diminished as desired without otherwise changing its connections with the valves. The emergency exhaust portspreventthe cylinder from ex eeedinga predetermined elevation on the.
column.
What we claim is:
1. Ajarring machine comprising a plural number of expansion chambers, pistons therein, inlet passages communicating with the respective chambers and separate valves for independently controlling said passages. *2. A jarring machine comprising a plural number of expansion chambers of diiicrent,
capacities, istons movable simultaneously in relation t ereto, atable movable with one of the pistons, passages comnu'lmcatmg Wllll' the respective chambers, valves for control-' ling said passages and connections with the table"foracti1ating the valves.
3. A jarring machine com rising a column consisting of superpose cylindcrs'of pansion chamber in. its upper portion, a counterbored cylinder arranged to slidably engage with'the column and formed with a piston and with an annular expansion chumditierent diameters and formed with an exably engage with the upper portion of the column, passages communicating with said chambers from a source of air under pressure, valves for controlling said passages simultaneously and connections with the counterbored cylinder for valves.
, 4. A jarring machine comprising a. column, a cylinder slidably engaging therewith and inclosing a plural number of expansion chambers between them, said column and cylinder being provided with emergency exhaust openings for the chambers, passages communicating. with the respective chambers, valves for controlling said passages, and adplstable connections wlth the eylmder for automatically operating the valves.
.5. In a jarring machine, the combination of a reciprocating table, a plunger, adjustable connections of the table therewith whereby the length of the stroke of the table may be changed in relation to that-of the plunger, and separate inlet and exhaust valves actuated successivelyand independently by the plunger.
6. A jarring machine comprising concentric cylinders, pistons therein the one of said.
pistons and cylinders being movable in relation'to the corresponding piston and cylin-- der, pipe connections between said cylinders ancla source of liquid under pressure, valves for controlling said connections, and means actuated by the movable piston for operating the valves.
