L. BRAKE, or'Roc'KFonn"ILL'INoIsa dori- I IMPRovz-:D HAMES-FASTENER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters lPatent and making part of theA sanne.
To all whom italia/y concern: -Be it knawn that 1,'M. L. BRAKE, of Rockford, in the county o f Winnebago, and State of Illinois,` have` invented a new; and useful Improvement in Harnes- Fasteners; and. I do hereby declare that the following is a, fullaudexact.description of the san1e,.reference being had 4to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
This invention relates to haines-fasteners, and consists mainly in the employment. of-a lever-hook of peculiar construction in connection with two metallic catch-bars, asv will be fully described hereinafter.
In ythe drawings-` Y Figure 1 represents a plan View of my invention;
FigureZ, a sectional view `'through the line x :c of fig.1;and r Figures 3, 4, and 5, views'of'parts detached. To'enable others skilled in the art to make and use' my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.`
A and :Erre'p'resent metallic bars,''ea`ch of which is provided with -the catch a., as shown, which latter is' caughtv into the eye at `the lower end oi' the haines,"
when in use, in the ordinary Inanner.` v
The part A is provided with theholes-a` andthe button a2, and the part B with thelever-heolr C; which latter is pivoted, as shown, lto its free end.
This hookis provided with the handle c andv hook '01, the latter being bent at cica, as shown in figs.. 2
'The part B is also provided with the hole a3, into Vrxnly united together.`
The operation of-my invention is as follows: The catches a a are caught into the eyes of the llames, and the end of the hoek is caught into any suitable holc in part A, the levepbeng turned back against B to facilitate this operation. turned over ou to A, in which position it is held by the button a?. In this position the two parts are From the peculiar construction `of the hook, it will be observed Athat the strain is borne equally by the twoparts, c2 c, of the hook, and that the fastening is thus rendered doubly secure.
, The button a? is cut awa only on one side, by which construction the possibility of the release of the lever by accident is made much less.
Whenit is desired to unfasten the haines, thebutv lton is turned and the lever released.
By the construction,V herein described, a simple and" e'ective device-is produced. It can be cheaply con"-V structed, and has `no detached parts to be .lostnor can itbe easily got out of order.
yHaving thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe device described, consisting of the parts `A B,
lever-h ook C, `and button a2, the whole being constructed l as and for the purpose set forth.
v i This specification signed and witnessed, this 5th day 'of'.Iuly, 1869.
