EXTENSION-BRACKET FOR PIANO-ACTIONS Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
Application filed September 1 1, 1908. Serial No. 453,009.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. BIL- Lixos, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, lVisconsin, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Brackets for Piano-Actions, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to an extension bracket for piano actions, my object being to construct an extension bracket which is vertically adjustable in order to readily fit the different lengths of abstracts or sticker actions, thus doing away with the necessity of having to provide a number of difierent lengths of solid brackets to fit the dififerent sizes of actions.
To the above purposes, my invention consists in certain novel features ofconstruction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
' Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bracket of my improved construction, with portions thereof in vertical section; and Fig. 2 is an ele ation of a pair of the brackets, to which are fitted the usual metal angle rails, which i carry portions of the piano action.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 1 designates the base member of the bracket, with the upper end of which is formed integral a vertically disposed arm 2, one face of which is provided with a series of teeth 3, and formed through the upper portion of this arm is a pair of horizontally disposed apertures, such as 1.
designates the central member of the bracket, to which are fitted certain of the rails A, which carry parts of the piano action, and formed integral with the lower end of this member 5 is a depending arm 6, one face of which is provided with teeth 7, which are adapted to fit between the teeth 3 on the arm 2. Formed in the arm 6 is a vertically disposed slot 8, and passing therethrough and through the apertures 1 are screws or bolts 9, the threaded ends of which are provided with nuts 10. This arrange ment permits the member 5 to be vertically adjusted relative to the base 1, and by means of the engaging teeth 3 and 7 and the screws 9, the parts 2 and 5 are rigidly connected.
l l l Formed inte ral with the upper portion of the member 0 is a vertically disposed lug 11, one face of which is provided with a series of teeth 12, and formed in the face of said lug is a screw threaded aperture 13.
1a designates the upper member of the bracket, the lower end of which is provided with a lug and the rear face of which is provided with teeth 16 adapted to engage between the teeth 12, and formed through the lug 15 is a slot 1'7, through which passes a screw 18, the threaded end of which enters the screw-threaded aperture 13, thus rigidly fixing the member 141 to the central member 5, and providing for the vertical adjustment of said member 14: relative to said member 5.
The members 5 and 14 are readily adjusted by loosening the screws 9 and 1S, and when said screws are tightened the parts are very rigidly connected, owing to the engagement of the sets of teeth 8 and 7, and 12 and 16, and as said bracketis readily adjustable, it is adapted to receive the different lengths of abstracts or sticker actions, and different piano action makers are enabled to readily assemble their particular sizes of actions without the delay and expense incident to the making of special patterns and castings of a particular." size of solid bracket.
I claim:
1. A piano action, comprising a rail-supporting bracket, which bracket is composed of a series of independent sections, each section provided on its face with a series of teeth adapted to engage with the teeth formed on the adjacent section, and means engaging the ends of the independentsections for holding the same in the desired adjustment.
it piano action, comprising a bracket composed of a base section, an intermediate section and a top section, each of said sections having roughened faces and means engaging the ends of each of said sections for holding the same in the desired adjustment to each other.
A piano action, comprising a bracket for supporting a piano rail, said backet comprising a base section, an intermediate section and a top section, the upper end of said base section being provided with an opening, the lower end of said intermediate section being likewise provided with an opening, bolts passing through the openings formed in said sections for holding said sections together in the desired adjustment, the ing said sections together and holding them said intermediate section having formed adjacent its top end a screw threaded opening and the lower end of said top section being provided with an opening and a screw located in said opening for securing the top section to the intermediate section and holding the same in its desired adjustment.
&. A piano action, comprising a bracket composed of separable and vertically adjust able sections, the base section thereof provided with a roughened face and an opening adjacent its upper end, a section verticall adjustable on said base section, likewise provided with a roughened face and an opening in its lower end, and bolts passing through the upper end of the base section and the lower end of the adjacent section for securin the desired adjustment.
A piano action, comprising a bracket composed of separable independentand ver tically adjustable sections, the adjacent ends of two 01 said sections being roughened and provided with alined openings, screw-threaded bolts located in said openings, and one of said sections being provided with means for attaching thereto a piano rail.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of 3 two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK CHRISTOPHER BILLINGS.
