Be it known that I, IVILHELM SCHMIDT, master mason, subject of the King of Wurtemberg, residing at Kornwestheim, Germany,- have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Disjointable and Adjustable ArclrSupport, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an adjustable and collapsible form for construction of masonry, such as arches, tunnels, sewers, sub-ways and the like and the object thereof is to provide a form in a manner as hereinafter set forth which is not only collapsible but also adjustable whereby the use thereof will materially reduce the costof construction both with respect to time and material.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter more specifically de scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a collapsible and adjustable form in accordance with this invention, and, Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A, B, denotes a pair of segment-shapee sections, each consisting of a base member (a). which extends longitudinally, a vertical end member (c), a pair of intermediate members (a a) which extend at an inclination, and a series of outer members (a (a ((6 the member (a being secured to the members (a) (cf), the member (a being at tached to the members (a and the member (64) being connected to the members (a) (a The periphery of the members (a (a (M) are upon the are of a circle. The sections A, B are adjustably connected to each other through the medium of a longitudinally extending coupling bar (1)) secured to the members (a) by the adjustable hold fast devices (0). The space between the sections A, B at the top is bridged by the arc-shaped bridge pieces (d) (cZ), each of which is provided with a series of openings (6) through which is adapted to extend holding bolts for securing the bridge pieces (d) (cZ) in position, the bolts also extending through the members The openings in the bridge piece (d) aline with the openings in the bridge piece ((Z). The outer edge of each of the bridge pieces ((Z) ((Z) is upon a smaller are than the are of the outer edge of either of the members (64). By such an arrangement the ends of the brid e pieces (cl) extend below the upper edges of the members (a Supports (c) on the sections A, B are provided for the bridge pieces (cZ) (cl). The row of openings in each of the bridge pieces are arranged upon the arc of a circle.
By setting up the form in the manner as stated, it can be used in the construction of arches of different radius and the adjustment of the form can be very conveniently had.
What I claim is:
A form for arches comprising a pair of quadrant-shaped sections spaced from each other, alongitudinally extending coupling bar detachably connecting said sections together at the base thereof, means for adjustably connecting said coupling bar to the bases of the said sections whereby said sections can be adjusted toward and from each other, said means embracing the bases of the sections, and said bar, adjustable archshaped bridge pieces independent of said sections and adapted to bridge the space between the sections at the top thereof, each of said bridge pieces provided with a series of openings. means extending through said openings and engaging in the sections where by the bridge pieces can be adjustably and detachably connected to said sections at the top thereof, the ends of said bridge pieces depending below the top edge of said sections, and laterally extending supports carried by the sections near the top thereof for supporting the bridge pieces, said bridge pieces mounted in the said supports.
