momma Feb. 1e, 1910.
annum ma .my as, nos. mnu n. man.
have invented certain new and useful lmpmvcmcnts in Ilead-Ilests for Chairs; und we do hereby declare the following to bc n full, clear, and exact description of the -.-a|nc. reference boing had to the mx'ompuny- -ing drawings, fornungg,r n mrt of this specification, and to the rc eretico characters nmt'ltetl thereOtt.
The prcflent invention relatos to head resta for chaire auch as used by barbera and denlista, and it has for an object to provide n' colmtruction which may be thrown to the rear of z chair back so that it will not be neccessary to remove it when it is not desired to employ the same.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all. as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the endA of thc speeilication.
lu the drawings: Figure .t shows a portion of the backof a chair with the bead rest thrown tothe rear, the dotted lines illustrating its upright position; Fig. 2 is a side view showing the head rest upri ht., arts of the lucano for holding it upright ing shown in section; and Fig. 3 is a rear view of the heed rest. Referring particularly to the drawings, indicates a portion of a chair hack, B nu ndjustable hcad-rcst stport, and C the head rest. v'lno support is adjustable in the chair A in am' suitable manner and is held in its adjusted position by a pnwl or other device 1, while the head rest carries a depending portion 2 which is pivoted at 3 to the supportin order that tho hond rest may be thrown to the oxition shown in Fig. l when not in usc. Vln'u in uric a roller 4 on a eros: har 5 carried by the ln-:nl-rest-rntcrs the sca. or notch ti in the upper rnd of the support, the depending portion. boing groovrd nt 't' lo permit it to uiovc trans-- vers-ely of thtI pivot pinv and thus allow the rollt-r to drop into and puffs from thc notch.
Holding.: Ihr ln-ad rest against displacenn'nt. from its .wat t3 is n dog or latch S prefrrnbly .s'lduhle on thc rcztr oi thtapport hrm-ath hooded -luds J working in slot# lt). 'lhin dog may enga-fe a houldrr li ou the 'lo throw the l l l l ment, and it may be pressed u wnrdly by s priug l2 mounted in a ket armed in the rear of the mpport an closed hy the dog. lead reet to the rear it ie slightly elevated to carry the roller 4 from the notch or seat 6, and the latch is dellirscd after which the head red may be t ropped, ns shown in full lines in Fig. l. In moving the head rest to o rative position it is swung upwardly so t tat the roller engages the beve ed portion 13, tlc-presses the latch to its lowerluost position, and then cautiony the shitting of the {ulcruni of the head rest so that said roller, after the latch has been iasscd, will drop into the seat 6.
A heat rest constructed iu accordance with this invention is not'rcmovcd from the chair, thus savia the time that is consumed in searching for it. after it has'bcen removed. The devices for shifting the head rest are simple in o ation, inexpensiveto manufacture, an so constructed that they are not in the wsv. Y
What we claim is: 1. The combination with a support and a head rest loosely pivoted thereon, one of said partaA being provided with a seat and the other .havina a portion adapted to enter and ass from te seat on the movement of the read reet transversely of its torni axis, of s movable latch carried one o said parts to hold said parte in t. perettye relation and engaged bi the other of eend arto to be moved them v and to move the lead rest transveracly of its turnin exis when said head rest is moved upwar y to enter the seat.
Q. The combination with a support, of a`- head rest. loosely pivoted thereon and adapt.- cd to swingdownwardly in the rear thereof, a scat. provided ou the support, a part osx'- ried by the head rest and adapted to enter and pass from the seat upon@ movement of the head rest transversely of ite turningaxia nml a eiiding latch arranged on the rear o the lsupport to copcrate with the head rest nud-having its uppe'r ond `beveled eo that it is cn 'a 'ed and dcpwssed by the head reet when t te alter is tnovcd upwardly to enter tho sont.
3. 'lhe combination with u sup ort hav ing' n notch in its ulpper und, of a tend rest loosely pivotcd to t tc support and .arrytnga roller adapted to cuter the notch, and a lult-h. cai-riet. by thc rapport, holding the head roet und loch ille hrttcrxogainst more l rollt-r in thc notch, and moved by the'roiler Ill tot
ihm the heed reet is thrown towexd oper depress. *ao latch and to copvnte 'with fm1 olive position to permit the roller to enter head reet to hold the letter in upright potei,- 'the notch. l 1 tion, and n spring mounted in'the pocke 4. The eombneton with e suport hgvof the support and normally moving the i in( e notch in its upper end an e ket latch upwardly.
