ANDREW E. GRAHAM C0. PHOT 94eme.
UIT
SECTION-INSULATOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT S. MOFEELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scalp Level, in the county of Cambria and vState of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Section-Insulators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to trolley line breakers or section insulators, and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character wherein the bar forming the trolley wheel contact may be readily removed and replaced without t-he manipula tion of fastening means.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail per spective view of the trolley wheel bar thereof.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes the body of the device, which may be made of wood or other suitable insulating material. At each end said body 1 is provided with an end piece 2 bolted thereto, as shown, and formed of brass or other suit; able conducting material. Said end pieces have their extended ends slotted at 3 on their under sides to receive the ends of the line wire in lthe usual manner, said slots terminating in substantially vertical apertures l into which the line wires are to be projected, and wherein they are retained by set screws 5. Said end pieces are also provided with apertures 6 and set screws 7 for receiving and retainingthe usual connecting wire bridging the body 1. The body 1 on its underside does not extend as far as the under faces of end pieces 2, and one of said end pieces, say the left hand one, is recessed at 8, while the other end piece is provided with a leaf spring 9, as shown. The ytrolley wheel bar 10 is provided at one end with a tongue 11 and at its other end with a head 12 having a depression 13 therein. To position said bar 10 the tongue 11 thereof is first inserted in recess 8 in one end piece 2, and the head 12 thereof then Specification of Letters Patent.

depressed upwardly so that spring 9 will engage the depression `13 in said head. When so positioned the bar 10 will be firmly retained in position, and will form on its under surface a. continuation of the end pieces 2. A stud 14 may be provided on one side of said bar 10 whereby it may be manipulated. Said bar 10 may be made of conducting material, such as copper or brass when it is desired to have a continuous conduction, and may be replaced by one made of wood or other non-conducting material when it is desired to provide a circuit breaker.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described, embodying a body, a trolley wheel bar, and spring means for holding said bar in position with respect to said body.
2. A device of the character described, embodying a body of insulating material, end pieces of conducting material secured to said body, a trolley wheel bar, and spring means for holding said bar in engagement with said end pieces.
3. A device of the character described, embodying a body of insulating material, end pieces of conducting material, and a trolley wheel bar having a tongue at one end to engage a recess in one of said end pieces, and spring means at its other end to form a detachable spring engagement with the other' end piece.
t. A device of the character described, embodying a body of insulating material end pieces of conducting material a trolley wheel bar having a tongue at one end to engage a recess in one of said end pieces and a depression in its other end, and a spring in the other end piece adapted to engage said depression and detachably re.- tain said bar in operative position.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT S. MGFEELY.
