Be it known that We, CAMPBELL Scorr and ERNEST L. Gann, Sr., residing at. Yonkers. in the county of lestchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useul improvement in Automatic Attachments for ll'ithdraiving Punchings from Punching-Nadunes, of which the following is a specitication.

The operation of the nieohaniesll device .shown in Fig. 8 is substantiall;v similar to the operation of the construction` town in Fig. 1. ln both cases the cutters ott, 5G, illustrated in detail in Figs. 1() and 11, should be usr-tl. or some other cutter which will have the saine effect. The positive cjecting device should be used in an)7 case for the salie of safet) so that in no event can the punch injure any of the parts b v reason of the piclc-oti electro-magnet getting caught between the punch aud the die.
It will now he apparent that we have constructed a simple and etlicient device for ithdrawing punchings from punching niachiner; such as is absolutely safe, in Ithat it does not require the inertion of the-workman`s hands under the punch to take out the punchings and scrap. rlhis has often been the source of serious injuries for the reason that the punch might come down while it was being endeavored to remove the punchings and scrap. It should also be noted that a positive ejecting device has been provided to n'event the punching machine or the attacinucnt thereto from being injured. But we do not desire to be limited to the exact construction of detail and arrangement of parts herein disclosed. as various` moditications may be made by those skilled in the art without departing` from the spirit and scope of our invention.
What we desire to claim and have protected by Letters Patent in the United States is:-
1. In a pick-otix for punching machines, the combination with a punching machine, and means for autoi'natically withdrawing by attraction the material from the said machine after it is punched.
ii. In a pick-ott` for punching machines, the combination with punching apparatus,
and electrosmcclninical means for automatically withdrawing the punchings ron'i such apparatus.
3. in combination with a punching machine. ot' a pick-ott' device for automatically witlnlrawing punchings from the die, and
means cti-acting with the punching machine for operatinpf said pick-ott' device.

t3. ln combination with a punching machine. of a swinging ar'o, :in electro-magnet carried thereby. means co-acting with the punching machine to automatically move said arm to bring said electro-umgeht in oroxiniity to the unchings, and means for energizing and tenergizing said electroinagnets at pre-determined times.
7. In punching machines, the combination with a pick-off device comprising a swinging arm, and means operated upon movement. of the punch for positively actuating said arm out of the path of the. punch.
8. In punching machines, an attachment for automatically withdrawing by attraction punchings from the die, and positive means for preventing an)- part of said attachment from being engaged by the punch.
9. In punching machines, the combination with a'arm, of an electro-magnet car rietl thereby. means for moving said arm t0 bring the electro-magnet into proximity to the punchings, and a device operated upon the movement. of the punch to punching position to positively actuate said arm to take the electro-magnet out of the pat-h of the punch.
l0. In punching machines, the. combination with a punching machine, of a swin fing arm, an electro-magnetl carried by said arm, an actuating device for moving said arm to bring the electro-magnet into prox imity to the punchings on the die, means for eiie;giziiig said electro-magnet, means for retirning the arm and eicctro-magnet to normal position, and a safety device for preventing the electro-magnet from being struck by the punch.
11. In combination with a punching niachine, of a swinging arm, an electro-magnet larried thereby. means co-acting with the punching machine for automatically swinging said arm upon the operation of the punch. an automatic switch for energizing said electroniagnet when in proximity to the punchings, means, for returningsaid swinging arm to its normal position, and connections between said swinging,r arm and switch for automatically denergizing said electro-magnet when the same assumes its normal position.
12. The combination with a punching machine. of a swinging arm, an electro-magnet carried by said arm. an additioirl electromagnet connected to said arm to actuate the same and swing said first-named electromagnet into proximity to the punchiiigs, an electric switch, means co-actmg with the punching machine for operating said electric switch `to eti'ect the energizatioa of the second-named electro-magnet. an additional switch. a connection between said arm and said additional switch to operate the latter and effect the energization of the firstnamed electro-magnet. and means for returning said swinging arm to its normal position. and automatically denergizvi'iig said tirst-named electromagnet. f

tion with a swinging arm, of an electro-magnet carried at the outer end thereof, an electro-magnetic device connected to saidarm at an intermediate point, automatic electrical means (zo-acting with said punching machine to effect the operaiion of said electromagnetic device upon the actuation'of the punch, an electrical switch, and a connection hetween said electrical switch and the swinging arm for etfecting the energization of the electromagnet at thc outer end of the arm when said electro-magnet is inproximity to the punchings, and for effecting the 'dencrgization of said electro-magnet when said arm assumes its normal position.
14. ln a punching machine, the combination with the dies, of a device for withdrawing by attraction punchings from the path of the dies, means for operating the said device, and means for effect-ing a separation of the punching and the scrap.

In a punching machine, the combination with an electro-magnetic pick-off device for withdrawing the punchings from the punching machine, of electro-magnetic means co-acting with the punching machine for automatically operating said pick-ott` device, and means adjacent to said )ick-ofi.' device when in normal position for e ecting the scparation ot the punching andthe scrap.
16. In a punching machine, the combination w Lt picieot device for automatically chines, ot' apparatus co acting with the punching machine for operating said pick-oli' device, and a device for automatically separating the punching from the scrap, by operating upon the punching and scrap to allow them to fall apart from each other.
17. In a punching machine, the combination with a punch and a die, of means for separating the scrap and the punching entirely from thc material inserted, and means for withdrawing by attraction both the scrap and the punching from 'the machine.
1S. ln a punching machine, the combination with a punch and a die, of a plurality of cutters for separating the scrap as .vell as the punching entirely from the material insented, and automatic electro -ntcchanical means for withdrawing both the scrap and punching from the machine.
19. In a punching machine. the combination of a punch and a die, and diametricallj,v arranged cutters or knives :for severing the punching from the scrap.
