ATTACHINGPPLUG.
To all whom it may concern:
lie itlrnown that I, JOHN O.'DALLAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, county of Schenectady, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachingl lugs, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to connectors for electric circuits, and its object is to provide a removable attaching plug for electric conductors in. which one or both of the customury rnife-blude contacts may be supplanted b inclosed fuses of cartridge form. This produces an attaching plug which is capable of carrying heavier currents than the plugs in which e sinull exposed fusewire is used. Yet this is accomplished without undue enuenient of the plug and by means of a ple and inexpensive construction.
lo the accompanying drawing Figure l is a front elevation of a flush receptacle for my improved attaching plug, the face-plate of said receptacle being removed; and Fig. is a sectional elevation of the receptacle and plug.
The body or casing-1 of the receptacle is zuude of insulating material, such as molded porcelain, and has secured to it by screws 2, the metallic ears 3 which are perforated to .eive the screws 4? by which the receptacle V listened to the wall The metallic face ila .e 6 covers the mouth of the receptacle and has two openings provided with insusting bushings 7. Each opening is in line l u clip secured to the bottom of the retools and comprising a base 8 carrying or more resilient lingers 8, preferably curved in cross-section and concentric with s exis of the opening in the faceplate. 1 arm 9 extends laterally from the base 8 end. is provided with. a binding-post 10. In an adjacent corner of the receptacle is on in tcgrul rib buying a. iassage 11 through it for u line terminal. l septum or barrier 12 separates the receptacle into two compartuu its, each containing one of the clips.
The plug comprises a, cupshaped holder 1.3 made of porcelain or the like, having a handle i l, and containing two metallic sockets composed of spring-fingers 15. One of said lingers has a longitudinal. slot 16 provided with a lateral notch 17. The sockets are so arranged that their center lines will Specification of Letters Patent.

coincide with the axes of the bushings 7 and clips 8. The brunch-line conductors are connected with said sockets, being led in through a central hole in the handle 14-. In each socket is inserted one end of a cartridge fuse 18 of any desired make, the metallic cap of said fuse having a pin 19 adopted to slip into the slot 16 and engage with the notch 17 when the fuse is slipped into the socket and turned, the action being that of a. bayonet oint. ll. desired, some other equiv ulent mode of reinovubly securing the fuse in the socket may be substituted for the baylVhen this plug with its two fuses is applied to the receptacle, the projecting ends of said fuses pass through the bushings and enter the clips where the metallic caps on said fuses make good contact withthe fingers 8, and thus establish a circuit through the branch conductors. Incsse a fuse is disrupted, the cartridge can be easily removed and a fresh one put in. The cup-shaped plug fits against the faceplate, so that if a fuse-body bursts the are cannot escape from the receptacle.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,
l. The combination with a. receptacle, of an attaching plug having a pair of inclosed fuses serving as contacts.
2. The combination with a. receptacle, of e contact clip therein adapted to frictionally engage one end of an inclosed fuse, an attaching plug provided with. resilient tin gers to receive the other end ofsaid fuse, and means for reniovably locking said fuse in said plug,
8. The combination with u receptacle, of a contact clip therein adapted to frictionully engage one end of an inclosed fuse,
an attaching plug having a socket to receive the other end of said fuse, and a bayonet joint connection for removebly securing said fuse in said socket.
4. The combination with a. receptacle, of a contact clip therein adapted to frictionally engage one end of an inclosed fuse, an attaching plug having resilient fingers to receive the other end of said fuse, one of said fingers having a. longitudinal slot provided with a. lateral notch, and. an inclosed fuse having a pin to engage with said slot.- and notch.
5. The combination with u receptacle, of
' two clips therein, a face-plate having openlugs registering with said clips, insulating; bulmigs for salci openings and an atmmmgg plug having means for rem'ovably nokimpg two inclosed fuses adapted to pass throiigh 10 said bushings into said clips.
In wiiness whereof I have hereunto set Eng Emmi this 18th day of August, 1905.
