UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
WILLIAM S. I-IAMM, OF HUBBARD WOODS, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE ADAMS & WEST- LAKE COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
LANTERN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 18, 1910.
Application filed June 7, 1909. Serial No. 500,750.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. HAMM, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Hubbard Woods, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and Figure 1 is a detail vertical section of a lantern, the font and reflector being shown in side elevation; and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the font and reflector.
The lantern body may take any desired form, and is conventionally shown at 10, its light-emitting lens being designated 11.
The oil font 12 is of any suitable form, and there is shown a common form of circular glass reflector 13. supported by a pair of standards 14, 15, which rise from the font at opposite sides of the vertical diameter of the reflector and are forked, as shown at 16, 17, to form a'chair within which the edge of the reflector is seated.
A pair of spring arms 18, 19, rise one from the upper end of each of the standards 14:, 15, and bow outwardly to follow approximately the curvature of the perimeter hold it in place.
This reflector is.
of the reflector. Each of these spring arms is forked, as shown at 20, 21, to engage the front and rear faces of the reflector and the horizontaldiameter of the reflector and urge it downwardly against its seat upon the standards and also stay"it laterally. E p
The reflector. is easily inserted and re- ,moved by forcing it between the spring arms, and when thus supported directly upon' the font the proper focal relation of lamp and reflector is insured.
I There is not claimed herein broadly a reflector support comprising a bifurcatedstandard rising from the font of the lantern and a spring arm for holding the reflector in engagement with the support, for
the reason that such claim is made insmy copending application Serial'No. 350,022,
filed December 29th, 1906, in which the form of construction herein described and specifically claimed is shown. I claim as my invention These arms extend above 1. In combination, a lantern, a font, a
reflector, a pair of forked standards rising from the font and engaging the reflector,
and a spring arm rising from one of the standards and engaging the reflector above its horizontal diameter.
2. In combinatlon, a lantern, a font, a
reflector, a pair of forked standards rising from the font and engaging the reflector, and a spring arm rising from each standard zontal diameter WILLIAM S. HAMM. Witnesses:
