UNIFIED @TABS AFIFQNF @FFIQEQ PATRICK YORKE, OF WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO PATRICK HENRY YORKE, OF VASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
DERRIGK.
fo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK Yoann, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of IVashington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Derricks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to derricks and particularly to metallic derricks, and consists in certain novel features and details of construction as will be more fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
The objects of the invention are to provide a metallic derrick which can be easily and rigidly erected and one which will combine simplicity, durability and cheapness of manufacture, and one which can also be taken down and transferred to another location without injury to any of the parts.
With these objects in view, I will now describe my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which sim ilar letters of reference indicate correspond ing parts, and in which,
Figure l, is a side elevation of a derrick embodying my improvements. Fig. 2, is a detail view showing one end of the girt. Fig. 3, is a detail of the ends of the uprights or corner posts. Fig. 4, is a section of one end of the brace more clearly showing the slot in the end thereof, Fig. 5, is a detail view of one corner of the sills, and Fig. 6 is a cross section of one of the corner posts.
A, represents the main or bottom sills of a derrick which may be made of wood or metal as desired. Secured to these sills are plates a, to which are connected the corner posts or uprights B. If desired these plates may be dispensed with and the uprights which are formed of angle-iron may be cut away on one side and the other side left so as to project down over the sides of sills or Each section of these corner-posts or uprights B, are connected together by means of bolts I), and c. rIhe two upper bolts b, passing through holes c', in each upper section and registering with slots d, formed in the top of the lower section, and the two lower bolts c, passing through holes in the lower section Specification of Letters Patent.

and registering with slots e, in the top of the lower section. G-irts C, formed also of angle-iron and having riveted thereto connecting-plates f, are clamped between the joints of the uprights. These plates have slots g, formed in the top and bottom edges thereof which permit them to be easily and rigidly secured in place by means of the bolts b, and c.
Secured near the top of the derrick are brackets 7L, the purpose of which is to form rests upon which the top or crown L of the derrick rests. The top 7L is preferably formed of wood, the corners of which are halved together and are secured in place by means of long bolts or rods z', which pass through the corner-posts or uprights from one side of the derrick to the other and when bolted up tight clamp the top or crown it rigidly in place. These bolts or rods z', may be passed through the corner-posts or uprights ust below the top or crown, when so desired, instead of above. Braces j, also formed of angle-iron and having slots formed in them near the ends thereof which are adapted to register with the bolts Z), and c, on the outer side of the corner-posts or uprights, for the purpose of staying the derrick and preventing it from being twisted by the heavy strains that a derrick is naturally subjected to. I also place two braces 73, and Z, on the side of the derrick facing the walking-beam. These braces are held in place by means of rivets or bolts m, and n.
Plates (not shown) are secured in the bottoms of the corner-posts or uprights which rest on the sills, and an angle-iron 0, shown in Fig. 5, is bolted in the corner where the sills overlap.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secureby Letters Iatent is:
A metallic derrick consisting of cornerposts or uprights formed of angle-iron and having holes and slots formed in the ends of each section thereof, girts formed of angle-iron and having plates riveted to both ends, slots formed in the upper and lower edges of said plates, braces formed of angleiron and having slots cut near both ends thereof; said corner-posts or uprights, girts and braces being adapted to be clamped together at the different sections by means of bolts; brackets secured near the top of said uprights upon which rests the top or crown,
together with bolts or rods Which pass In testimony that I claim the foregoing through said corner-posts at o1" near the top as my own invention, I have hereunto set thereof for clamping the top or crown my hand inthe presence of two Witnesses. 10
rigidly in position and means for securing PATRICK YORKE. 5 the corner-posts o1' uprights to the sills of Titnessesz the dei-rick, all substantially as and for the BLANCHARD G. HUGHES,
purposes shown and described. MARK M. DECKER.
