Application filed July 7, 1919.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewis Run, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new 1 n and useful Scaffold, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to scaflolds, and more particularly to portable scaifolds employed in connection with building chimneys or the like.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a scadold which may be adjusted to conform to gable roofs of various pitches.
A further object of the invention is to provide a scaifold, the elements forming the same being connected together to permit the same to be folded into a relatively small bundle for transportation.
A still further object is the provision of a scaffold which may be supported on a roof without the employment of nails, bolts, or other securing means which might puncture a roof.
lith these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail.
The numeral 1 indicates the legs of the end sections each of which end sections includes the upper and lower connecting members 2 and 3, the same having connection with the legs 1 by the bolts et which as shown pass through suitable registering openings provided in the connecting members 2 and 3 and legs 1.
Diagonally extending brace connects the upper and lower connecting members 2 and 3 adjacent the ends thereof, thereby preventing latera-l twisting of the side members Specification of Letters Patent.

The end sections are connected at both sides thereof by the roof engaging members 6 and 7 which as shown have their ends 8 and 9 secured to the legs 1 vadjacent the lower ends thereof by means of suitable bolts 10 passing through the legs 1 and members 6 and 7. The opposite ends of the members 6 and 7. are connected together as at 11 to permit of adjustment of the members 6 and 7 to enable the angles thereof to be changed to embrace gable roofs of various pitches.
These end sections are also connected on both sides of the scaffold by the horizontal upper and lower brace members 12 and 13, each of which is provided with an elongated slot 14: disposed adjacent the ends thereof.
rllhe diagonally disposed side brace members 15 connect the horizontal brace members 12 and 13 and as shown, these brace members 12 and 13 are also provided with elongated slots 16, which slots accommodate the securing bolts 17 which also extend through the elongated slots of the horizontal brace members 12 and 13 and connect the same to the end sections.
Suitable nuts 18 are provided on the bolts 17, for drawing the members 12, 13 and 15 together to prevent movement of one inember with relation to the other, when the elements of the scaffold are adjusted to properly engage a particular gable roof.
Fromthe foregoing it will be seen that by removing the bolts 17, the side bracing members may be disconnected from the end sections, and readily folded into a compact bundle for transportation. comes necessary to assemble the scaffold, the angle of the gable roof on which the scaffold is to be mounted is measured, and the roof engaging members 6 and 7 correspondingly adjusted, the horizontal brace members 12 and 13 properly positioned and the bolts 17 securing the ends thereof, tightened to bind the elements together to prevent movement of one member with relation to the other.
lV hen the scaffold is assembled, the upper brace members 12, together with the upper connecting members 2 provide suitable support for a platform not shown which platform may be of any suitable boards laid thereon.
