To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR FALK, a citizen 'of the United States, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Moisteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tobacco inoisteners, and has for its object to provide a tobacco moisteiier consisting of blotting paper or other absorbent material, which is attached to the cover of a tobacco receptacle.
The invention has especial reference to such a inoistener attached to the inner cover of a receptacle such as set forth in U. S. Letters Patent No. 571,112, granted to Moses Falk, November 10, 1896.
Referring to the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a plan view of a cover' for a tobacco receptacle constructed to hold an absorbent pad for keeping the tobacco moist. Fig. 2 is a view in cross section of the cover shown in Fig. 1 with an absorbent pad secured thereto. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a modification of the invention. Fig. l is a plan view partly broken away of the device in Fig. 3.-

Letters Patent No. 571,112, liavino' an uptiirned riin 2, and adapted to be slidJ inside of a receptacle and serve as an inner cover with an air chamber between it and an outer cover, as set forth in said U. S. Letters Patent No. 571,112. In order to secure a tobacco inoistening pad to said cover the lat-ter is provided with any suitable nuniber of flexible lips 3, punched out of the cover 1 adjacent to the rim 2 and forming openings d. The inoistening pad 5, which may consist of blotting paper, felt, or other suitable absorbent material adapted to be wet with water and retain the moisture, is
secured to the under side of the cover 1 by means of the lips 3, which are bent down and l l l i l 1 i l tion the inoistened pad 5 will be adjacent to the tobacco in the receptacle and willv keep it from getting dry. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 a inoistening pad 51 is secured to the upper side of a cover 1a similar to the cover 1, the pad 5 being secured in place by lips 3a bent up and over the edge of the pad 5a leaving the openings la uncovered. By this means the moistened pad is not located directly in contact or adjacent to the tobacco in the receptacle, and the moisture passes through the openings 4a to the tobacco.
lVhile the invention has been set forth as applied to a particular forin of cover it is not confined thereto as the pad mayL be secured by the means described to any form of cover. By means of the fiexible lips the pad may be removed when desired and a fresh one secured in place, and the pad may also be placed under or above the cover according to which direction the lips are bent.
I claim- 1. A device of the character described, consisting of a metallic cover having a vertical riin or fiange and flexible lips punched out of said cover adjacent to said rim and forming openings, and adapted to be bent toward either side of said cover, and a removable tobacco inoistening pad secured to said cover by said lips bent over the edge of the pad.
2. A device of the character described, consisting of a metallic cover having a vertical riin or flange and flexible lips punched out of said cover adjacent to said rim and forming openings and adapted to be bent toward either side of said cover, and a removable tobacco inoistening pad secured to said cover by said lips bent over the edge of the pad, said pad extending ovei and covering said openings.
