To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK SMETANA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State'of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cake-Trimmers, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to devices designed for employment by bakers upon the outer surface of cakes in the course of preparation thereof, for the removal of rough edges or corners therefrom preparatory to the application of frosting or icing thereto.

The object of my invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned which will be of great efficiency and which will be simple of construction, hence of low cost to manufacture.

Other` objects will appear hereinafter.

lVith these objects in view my invention consists in a device characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings l indicates the body of the device which 1s preferably tubular in form, the same being preferably constructed of a single piece of sheet metal bent to form parallelly extending top and bottom portions 3 and 2 respectively and end portions 4 which may be of any desired form, the extremities 5 of said sheet metallic member being brought together and secured preferably by soldering. The top portion 3 of said body is formed with teeth or burs 6 preferably punched therein so as to project below the plane of the under surface thereof, such teeth being of any suitable form.

Having its extremities suitably secured to the longitudinal edges of the body l, preferably midway the extremities thereof, is a strap or handle 7. In using the device the palm of the hand rests upon the upper surface of the body portion 2, in which event the strap 7 extends over and snugly engages the back thereof, hence the device may be securely held for manipulation.

In the several figures I have shown my device in three different designs, the differentiation in designs lying essentially in the longitudinal sectional forms thereof. The form shown in Fig. l is designed for use upon plane surfaces suoli as the top of an ordinary cake or upon the sides of a cake of squared or other prismatic form. That shown in Fig. 2 is designed for use upon the peripheral edge portion of the upper surface of a cake provided with beveled or rounded edges, said form being, when used, drawn over the surface in a line transversely extending to its longitudinal axis. Said form is also applicable to concave surfaces. The form shown in Fig. 3 is designed particularly for employment upon the lateral surfaces of the ordinary cylindrically formed cake.

In order to facilitate the ready discharge from the device of the particles removed thereby from a cake operated upon the end walls t thereof may'be provided with openings 8. And further the corners of the device may be rounded off as at 9, shown'in Fig. l, to prevent marring of the surface acted upon, such as would possibly occur if the same were left in a square or sharp condition. However, such details are not essential and may or may not be embodied in the device as desired.

While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable forms of my device, I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be several changes made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention comprehended within the scope of the appended claims. And while I have designed my device with special reference to the trimming of cakes, I may use the same for any other purpose to which it is applicable, such for example as in the cleaning of fish.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A device of the class described, comprising a sheet metal body having top, bottom and end walls, projecting teeth formed in said bottom, a strap transversely extending over said body and having its extremities secured to the lateral edges of said top and bottom, substantially as described.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a sheet met-al body having top, bottom and end walls, said end walls being provided with discharge openings, project-ing teeth formed in said bottoni, and a handle transversely extending across the top of said body, substantially as described.

A device of the class described, coinprising a sheet metal body having top, bot toni and end Walls, said bottoni being curved in forni, projecting teeth formed in said bottom, and a transversely extending strap arching the top of said body having its extremities secured to the lateral edges thereof, substantially as described.

Ll. A device of the class described, coinprising a sheet inetal body consisting of top, bottoni and end Walls, saidbottoin beingcurved in forni, projecting teeth forined in said bottoni, and an arched handle transversely eX- tending over the top of said body, the eX- treniities of said handle being secured to lateral edges or" said top and bottoni, the corners of said body being rounded, substantially as described.
