journaled in the frame 18. A ratchet wheel l 2() disposed inside of the drum lT is provided with a sleeve 2l which is rotatablyv mounted on the arbor 5, on which sleeve the spur gears and 23 are mounted, the former being rigidliv secured to said sleeve and the latter being free to rotate thereon. The seconds hand Qt is secured to the central arbor 5, the minute hand to the sleeve 2l of the ratchet wheel 20, and the hour hand 2G to the sleeve 2T of the gear Q3, the latter gear being driven b v the pinion 2S integral with the gear 2t), which driven by the gear 22.
To provide the proper movement of the ratchet wheel 2O without a iegular gear reduction. means are provided to rotate the same to the extent of one tooth once at each revolution of the ratchet wheel l, said means comprising a catch lever 30 having a dog 31 at one end thereof for engaging the notch 32 and a dog at the other end thereof for engaging the tooth of the ratchet wheel Q0. This catch lever is pivoted on one side of the ratchet. wheel l, and the dog 3l is held normally in sliding contact with the stationar'v internal surface 3l of the drum 1T bv means ot' the springl secured to the ratchet wheel l ready to engage the notch 32 when it registers therewith, the dog 33 engaging the ratchet wheel Q0 simultaneouslyv with the last named movement. rl`he ratchet wheel 20 is rotated to the extent of one tooth, then the dog ill is thrown out of engagement with the notch 32 bv means of the curved surface il?) sliding over the corner 3G of the drum lT.
Various slight changes might be made in the general torni and arrangement of parts described without departing from mv invention, and hence l do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider mvself at libertv to make such changes and alterations as fairl;Y fall within the spirit, and scope of the claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent is:
l. In a device of the class described, a seconds hand arbor journaled in a frame, a minute hand sleeve rotatably mounted on said arbor having a ratchet wheel integral therewith. a drum secured to said frame whose axis coincides with the axis of said ratchet wheel, an hour hand sleeve mounted on said minute hand sleeve and means for rotating the same, a notch in the inner surface of said drum, a catch lever pivoted to a side of the drive ratchet wheel secured to said arbor, resilient means connected with said catch lever whereby the same is adapted to engage said notch and said first named .ratchet wheel for rotating the latter to the extent of one tooth, and means for releasing said catch lever, substantially as described.
In a device of the class described, a seconds hand arbor ournaled in a frame provided therefor, an arm rotatablvY mounted on said arbor having a pawl pivoted thereto at its outer extremity, a recess in said pawl on the side thereof opposite said arbor, a pendent magnet armature lever adapted to engage said recess in said pawl and to advance the same when the magnet is energized, a block integral with said armature lever adapted to engage said pawl and to hold the same in engagement with said ratchet wheel when the pawl is in its advanced position, resilient means for returning said pawl to its normal position, means for preventing retrograde movement of said ratchet wheel, a drain secured to said frame whose axis coincides with said arbor, a. minute hand ratchet wheel adapted to receive intermittent motion fromY said first named ratchet wheel having a sleeve integral therewith and rotatablv7 mounted on said arbor, an hour hand gear mounted on said sleeve, and means for driving the latter. substantiall'v as described.
In a device of the class described. a ratchet wheel secured to an arbor, journaled in a frame provided therefor, a seconds hand attached to one end of said arbor, a radial arm rotatabl)v mounted on said arbor, a` pawl pivoted to the outer extremitv of said arm adapted to engage the teeth of said ratchet wheel. a recessed portion in said pawl, a pendent magnet armature lever adapted to engage said recessed portion and to advance said lever when the line circuit is closed, said pawl when advancing being adapted to rotate said ratchet wheel, means to prevent retrograde movement of said ratchet wheel, and means connected with said ratchet wheel for imparting intermittent motion to the hoi 1 and minute hands of the clock. substantialliT as described,
In testimonyv whereof I have signed in v name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
