Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed afiru 2, 190?. Serial No. 367,857.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known-that we, RICHARD KIrUnN, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, and Ausnirr REICIIMANN, of'Chicago, Cook count Illinois, have invented a new and usefu Turn-Table Center, of which the following is a'full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad tothe accompanying drawin s, forming part of this specification, in whic Figure 1 is a view showing one half of our improved turn table center in plan view and the other half with the upper plate removed to show the bearing rollers; and Fig. 2 is a view of the same partly in side elevation and partly in section.
Our invention has relation to turn table centers, and is designed to rovide an im proved arrangement of the hearing rollers which carry the load, and also to provide means for the more effective lubrication of the same and for the exclusion of dust.
Our invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, all substantially as hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the base casting of the turn table center, 3 the rotatable'top plate or casting, and 4 the cap plate which supports the usual table bridge and table, (npt shown.) The base casting 2 is provided in its upper por tion with theopen annular troughfi, and the rotatable top plate 3 has in its under surface a similar annular trou h 6, these two tlOl lghS forming a chamber or the series of central, radially-arranged, bearing rollers 7. These rollers are arranged side by side, and are loosely journaled onthe pins 8, said pins being seated in the outer and inner annular rings 9 and 10. These pins are inserted loosely through the outer ring 9, having heads 11 at their outer ends, and their inner ends are formed with reduced threaded portions 12 which engage threaded openings in the inner ring 10.
10 designates a washer, which is interposed between the outer end of each roller and the outer ring.
The pins 8 connect the two rin to keep the rollers in roper relative positions, without the use of connecting ribs, which would take up some of the space available for the rollers. The rollers 7 are also placed between the upper and lower annular bearing or track plates 13 and 14, which are made separate iroin the castings l and 3, so that they may be of harder metal. and also be readily renewed and replaced it' necessary.
The space around the rollers forms a lu- 'u'icant-conlaining chamber which may be supplied by means of a pipe 15 which extends upwardly through the central portion of the cap 4. The inner wall of this lubricant-containing chamber is sealed by the intcrfitting of the inner lip (3 of thh trough (5 within the inner lip or wall 5" of the lower trough 5. The outer lips or Walls of these two troughs are made of reduced thickness at the joint, as shown at 16, the upper reduced lip fitting within the lower one, as shown in Fig. 2. and the outer s de of the joint 01 opening between these lips bein covered by a dust guard or strip 1?. By liecping oil up to line m-m, shown in Fig. 2, complete lubrication of the bearings is assured, and dust and dirt are excluded therefrom.
The cap 4 is provided with the usual rorlr- 8O ing hearing at 18 on the 111F181 surface of the top plate 3,
The advantages of our inrezficu result from the manner in which the braring rollers are arranged, so that they can be placed in position, and the pins inserted therethrough, and secured in the inner ring 10 without the use of nuts or other fastening devices; also from the provision of the separate bearing plates for the rollers,- and in the construction and arrangement of the lubricant containing chamber whereby complete lubrication of the rollers is insured.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement, with out departing from the spirit and scope of our invention.
\Vhat we claim is 1. A turn table center, having a base portion and a rotary top plate or portion, said portions having annular corresponding troughs in their meeting faces, formed by projecting annular flanges from each portion, the flanges of the to portion lyin within the flanges on the ase, aseries o antifriction rollers in the chamber formed by said troughs, a tapered bearin or track plate for the said rollers in eac portion,
a supporting frame for the rollers, comprising an inner and outer ring and ins projecting throu h the rollers and t e rings, and a turn tahlehearing cap loosely mount- 5 ed on the upper surface of the top plate;
substantially as described. 4
2. A turn table center, having a base portion' and a rotary top plate or portion, said portions having annular corresponding 10 troughs in their meeting faces, formed by projecting annular flanges from each portion, the flanges 0f the top portion lyin within the flanges on the base, a series 0 antifrietion rollers in the chamber formed 15 by said troughs, a tapered hearing or track plate for the said rollers in each portion, a supporting frame for the rollers, comprising an inner and outer ring and pins pro ecting through the rollers and the rings, and an annular dust guard secured to the outer 2o flange of the top plate and extending over the outer flange of the base; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands.
