To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUDEL LEVIN, a citizen of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Automatic Vending-Machine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in automatic venders and especially such as are adopted for selling newspapers by dropping a coin in the slot; and the object of my invention is to produce an apparatus adjustable for various kinds of newspapers and similar articles, and the improvement consists of the constructions, combinations and relations of parts hereinafter described and claimed and illustrated by the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1, is a plan view of my machine; Fig. 2, is a side elevation; Fig. 3, is a side elevation of the operating mechanism; Fig. 4c, is a detail view of a cam; Fig, 5, is a cross section of a swinging platform; Fig. 6, is a view of a frame support, and Fig. 7, is a side elevation of a swinging platform.
Similar figures refer to similar parts throughout the various views.
The papers 1, 1 1 etc., are assembled within the space 10 and slide along the inclined plane 3.
2 is a frame carrying two pins 50,50 which can be adjusted by nuts 52, 52. Springs 42 are attached to frame 2 and movable back 11, to force 11 against the papers assembled within 10 and against a front 11. 11 extends down to platform 3, while 11 permits the lower ends of the papers to pass under it, and under the roller 14, and are held by a pin 15, projecting from a case 16, and a platform 17. A lever 18 has a projection 19 which engages a notch 20 of a cam 21. A
. coin dropped at 22 would fall on 23 and cause by its weight the lever 18 to move downward releasing the cam. A gear 24 is actuated by a spring 25 regulated by a ratchet 29, a click 27, and wound up by a key 28; meshes with a piston 26 and causes the cam to turn when said cam is released. The cam moves an arm 30 and transmits the motion through lever 31, to platform 17 causing it to swing about pin 32. This causes button 15 to slip from front of the first paper to that of the second. The further motion of the cam, brings a section thereof of a smaller diameter in contact with arm 30, allowing the platform 17, to swing back in its original position. Cam 21. has a flange 33 which operates on a lever 34k, to cause a clutch to engage the gear 21. 35 is keyed on a pin 36 carrying the roller 1.4L l/Vhen 35 engages 2 1, 14 revolves rolling over the surface of a paper causing it to slide past the paper next to it, over platform 17 and out through opening 38. The distance between 11 and 11 is varied by means of bolts 51, 51 against the pressure of springs 4:2, 12. The frame 2 is supported by arms 13, having bearings 44, carrying pins 45, free to roll within slots 16, in brackets 17, which support the inclined plane 3. The papers are thus held in a carriage which travels by gravity and carries the papers along to bring them in contact with 1 1. Pin 36 is supported by concentrics 18, attached to wall 49, of case 1, and to partition 51, which divides the case. The roller 14 can thus be adjusted.
Having thus described my invention What I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
1. An automatic vending machine consisting of a casing, a plane mounted therein, slotted brackets attached thereto, rollers mounted in the slots, a carriage supported by the rollers, papers carried thereby, a roller in front of the carriage, a ratchet wheel, a roller and a gear to be operated by the wheel, a cam and a pinion meshing with the gear for operating the cam, and a swinging platform actuated by the cam.
2. An automatic vending machine consisting of a casing, an inclined plane mounted therein, slotted brackets supported thereby, rollers travelingly mounted in the brackets, a carriage carried by the rollers, a roller in front of the carriage, a ratchet wheel, a spring for operating the wheel and a key for winding the spring, a gear to revolve with the ratchet for operating the roller, a pinion meshing with the gear, a cam operated by the pinion, and. a swinging platform actuated by the cam.
3. An automatic vending machine consisting of a casing, an inclined plane mounted therein, brackets supported above the plane, rollers travelingly supported by the brackets, a carriage provided with a permanent front and an adjustable back carried by the rollers, a roller in front of the carriage, a gear, a spring actuated ratchet wheel for operating the gear and the roller, a pinion meshing with the gear, a cam operated by the pinion and provided With a notch, and a releasable lever provided With a notch for engaging and disengaging the cam notch.
4. An automatic vending machine consisting of a casing, an inclined plane mounted therein, slotted brackets mounted above the plane, rollers travelingly supported by the brackets, a carriage to travel With the rollers and provided With an adjustable back and springs for adjusting the back, a roller in front of the carriage, a spring and a key for Winding the spring, a ratchet to be operated by the spring, a gear for op- I erating the roller, a pinion meshing With the gear, a notched cam provided with a flange operated by the pinion, a clutch operated by the cam flange, a swinging platform actuated by the cam, and a releasable lever provided With a notch for engaging and disengaging the cam notch.
