To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM J HILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extensible Roller-Skates, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a roller skate, which is extensible to readily adapt the same to different size boots or shoes such a skate of necessity requiring the provision of means between the front and rear Wheels, according to my invention, a sectional truss strap,

to provide required strength for extensionof the roller skate, for practical use; and to that end my invention has for its principal object, to provide in a roller skate in connection with trucks for the front and rear wheels, a sectional truss-strap in fixed and slidable connection with-the foot-plate of the skate so as to quickly and reliably extend and contract in length the skate to adapt the same to different size shoes or boots, without sacrificing strength or displacing parts changed to adapt such a skate to the said uses.

The nature and scope of my present invention will be more fully understood from the accompanying drawings taken in connection with the following description forming part hereof, in which,

Figure 1, is a top or plan View of 'a roller skate, embodying main features of my said invention. Fig? 2, is an underneath plan View of the two parts of the skate, showing the sectional truss-strap applied thereto. Fig. 3, is a vertical longitudinal central sectional view of the skate; and Figs. 4: and 5, are respectively, transverse sectional views on the lines w, :20, and g 3 of Fig. 3.

Referring to the drawings A, is the skate having a foot-plate a, constructed in two parts and fitting into each other, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

a and a are respectively, the front and rear pairs of wheels mounted in connection with trucks 5 and b riveted to the two-part foot-plate a.

C, is the sectional truss-strap of my invention, riveted to the rear truck Z2 and also to the foot-plate, in a depression a formed therein. This truss-strap is inclined at c, from the truck Z2 and extends then longitudinally between guides (Z and (Z provided in the bottom of the sectional foot-plate a,

as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, in the form of a perforated channel bar 0 arranged so as to extend beyond but above the front truck Z), of the skate. The other section of the truss-strap 0 is riveted midway of thetruck b, and is arranged to extend in an inclined relation into the channel portion of the bar 0 and by an inverted channel block 0 bolt 0, and nut 0 extending through the channeled bar 0 and footplate a, the two sections of the truss-strap C, can be readily and quickly jammed against each other, so as to firmly and securely hold the two-part foot-plate a, in whatsoever given position required, to adapt the extensible skate thereby to different size shoes or boots, without in the least, sacrificing the necessary strength for safety in use of such a roller skate, with the extensible features therein, as hereinbefore explained.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A roller skate provided with an extensible foot-plate and a sectional truss-strap connected with the wheel-trucks, one member being riveted to one of the trucks and the foot-plate and the other member being riveted to the other of the trucks and adjustably connected with the said first member and footplate, substantially as and for the purposes described.
