CLOSURE FOR PAPER VESSELS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Application filed May 4, 1909. Serial No. 493,911.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that- I, CHARLES FRANCIS J ex Kms', a citizen of the United States, residing at l'ashingtoli, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Paper Vessels; and I do hereby declare the following to be axull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to spirally wound containers especially adapted for holding' milk or other liquids, and has for its object the production of a closure for such containers which will be simple in construction, cheap to produce, which will permit the cream to be saved from the milk, and which at the same time will provide a pouring channel to conduct the milk out of the bottle.
To these ends the invention consists of. the
parts more Jfully hereinafter disclosed and particularlyv pointed outin the claims.
'Referring to the accompanying drawings vforming a part of this specification in which like numerals refer to like parts in all the views. Figure l is a sectional elevational view of a paper vessel made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the ring seat. forming a part of the closure.v
l represents the usual spirally wound body portion ofthe paper bottle, 2 a flanged, inverted, cup-shaped, bottom closure, 3 a diski like stopper closure adapted to fit into the open mouth oit' the body portion l after the `t'ashion of a plug stopper.
Closely fitting the interior surface of the body portion .l is a rino l, which is much thicker than-the walls oij said body portion, and which is provided with a cutaway portion as illustrated. This ring may be secured inside of the body lportion 1 by any suitable means, as glue for instance, and itmay be cheaply and quickly made by cutting i off sections of a continuous tube, which tube has previously had a portion of its circumference removed corresponding to the open ing 5 in the ring. The top disk closure 3 is also preferably made thicker than the bottle body 1, and is made sufliciently stiff to constitute a liquid tight joint between its outer circumference and the inner walls of said body portion. The cutaway portion 5 or opening of the ring, constitutes a channel'through which milk or other liquid is directed when pouring, and it also permits the last portions of the cream which stick to the inner walls of the bottle to be drained therethrough.
The pa rts may be provided with any suitable liquid proofing material.
What I claim is:
I. A paper vessel provided with a body portion, an inverted` cup .-shaped, fianged, bottom closure; a disk like top closure fitting the interior surface of said body portion; and a ring against which said top closure seats leaving an unobstructed inside wall sur- .face between said ring and the top edge of said body portion, and said ring provided with a cut away portion through which the liquid in the bottle may be drained, substantiall \v as described.
Q. A spirally wound paper vessel provided with an inverted, flanged, cup-shaped, bottom closure and having a disk like top closure fitting the unobstructed interior walls of said vessel and also a fixed ring seat, said ring seat being of a sufficient thickness in a radial direction to partially obstruct the flow of liquid, and having a portion of its body cut away to forni a pouring opening, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence ot' two witnesses.
CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS.
