Description
FRIEDRIG cUBsEaor NEWPORT, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent N o. 94,410, dated August 31, 1869.
IMPROVED RAILWAY-FROG.
The Schedule referred to Lu these Letters Patent and making part o! the nine.
To whom Ait may concern Be it known that I, Fantome GBsEn, of Newport, Campbell county, Kentucky, have 'invented a new and useful Railroad-Frog; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
This device is intended especially for street-railroads, and is placed at the point where two tracks converge and end in a single track, and it acts as a switch to direct a car from the main track to the desired side track.
The drawing is a perspective view'of a frog of my invention, in which A and B are respectively the portions of the casting giving support to the left wheels of carslapproaching the main track on either of the converging tracks.
'The portion a of the track A is depressed, so that the flange ofthe right wheel of acar coming from -the main track will be broughtiu contact with the corner c of the channel G, and direct the car-.wheel to the track A.
It will thus be seen that-a. wheel approaching the main track on the track B will pass from the point b to the somewhat depressed part a ofthe track A, and on return will be directed to the track A.
This is accomplished without any movable parts, and as the whole frog would be cast in one piece it would be cheap and durable, and effective where applicable, that is tosay,wl1ere it is desired that cars leaving the main track shall invariably take the right-hand or lefthand fork. l
When it is desired thatcars leaving the main track take the lethand fork, the depression is of course made on that side.
I claim herein as new, and of my invention-4- The switching-frog, constructed with the rails or tracks A and B, the former provided with the depres-A Y sion aand the elevated channel C, arranged and adapted to operate as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony of which invention, I hereunto set my hand.
FRIEDRIG GBSER. Witnesses:
