CHARLES C. GIMBEL, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
BARREL-SWING FOR STORE-COUNTERS.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. GIMBEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Swings for Store- Counters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to barrel stands, and pertains especially to the class of devices used in connection with store counters for holding barrels between the counter and the counter floor.
The object of the invention is to provide novel and peculiar combination of devices for holding barrels in upright position be tween a store counter and the counter floor so that the barrel may be given pivot movement for swinging it out from under the counter.
A further object of the invention is to provide a revoluble barrel seat in connection with a pivoted barrel hanger, the latter adapted to grasp the top chime of the barrel while the bottom chime of the barrel is held by said seat opposite the hanger.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application: Figure 1 is a sectional View of a store counter showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line ww, Fig. 1, showing the barrel held by the stop. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the supporting device. Fig. i is a perspective view of the hanger. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of stop.
The same reference numerals denote the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
The invention is applicable to the usual store counters 1, having suflicient space between it and the counter floor 2 for storing ordinary barrels, and with sufficient deptli from the rear edge of the counter to its front 3 for the barrel 4.
The barrel hanger consists of a plate 5 adapted to be attached to the under side of the counter 1 by suitable screws, and the plate has a central depending square rod 6, upon which is secured by a suitable thumbscrew 7, a collar 8 having an arm 9 provided with a pivot hole 10, for the stem 11 of a fork 12 which is adapted to fit over the top chime 13 of the barrel.
The revoluble barrel seat and its support- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 498,734.
ing device consists of a circular base 1 1 having an annular flange 15 adapted to be screwed to the floor 2 by suitable screws, and provided with a circular groove 16 for ball-bearings 17; a disk 18 forms a seat for the barrel and has a circular projecting rim 19 fitting the groove 16 and resting on the ball bearings 17; the top face of the disk 18 has a pair of central lugs between which the bottom chime 20 of the barrel fits, one of said lugs 21 which is within the barrel chime is shorter than the other lug 22, so that barrels having chimes of various depth may be seated in the space between the lugs without the inner lug interfering with the bottom of the barrel, while the long or outside lug extends farther up the barrel and forms a more extensive bearing on the outside of the barrel.
A stop 23 is fixed to the floor so as to be engaged by the barrel when it is swung under the counter for temporarily holding the barrel under the counter. This stop is so placed with respect to the swing of the barrel that the latter may have just enough bearing against the stop face to prevent the barrel swinging in either direction until the barrel is pulled out of engagement with the stop.
Referring to the modification shown in Fig. 5, the stop 24 is held slidably to the floor by a strap 25 having prongsor points adapted to be driven into the floor, and the stop is controlled by a spring 26, having one end attached to the stop and the other end attached to a lug 27 of the strap, so that this stop may be used for barrels of various diameters without adjustment.
It will be seen that a barrel may be most conveniently operated by this device and readily applied thereto by simply placing the bottom chime between the seatlugs, raising the barrel to upright or vertical position, and adjusting the fork over the top chime.
It is obvious that in removing the contents of the barrel held by the device, the weight thereof is carried by the revoluble disk which is readily turned in either direction for swinging the barrel from under the counter for access thereto.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a store counter support for barrels, the combination, with a collar having a lateral arm, means for vertically adjusting the collar, and a fork adapted to fit over the top chime of the barrel and having a stern turnable in the arm, of a circular base fixed centrally under the fork, a disk Working in the base and having a seat for the bottom chime and adapted to be rotated on the base by turning the barrel, and a floor stop for holding the barrel under the counter.
2. In a store counter attachment for swinging barrels, the combination, With a pivoted fork adapted to fit over the top chime of a barrel, and means for suspending the fork, of a base fixed to the counter floor, a disk revoluble on the base, a pair of lugs projecting from the base and forming a seat for the bottom chime, and a spring con trolled stop slidably secured to the floor and engaged by the barrel to hold it under the counter.
3. In a revoluble barrel support, the combination With a fixed base having a circular groove therein, and ball-bearings in the groove, of a revoluble disk having a depending rim projecting into the groove and engaging said balls, chime engaging lugs projecting from the disk, and suitable means engaging the top of the barrel for holding it on the disk.
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES C. GIMBEL.
