PATENT ROBERT BUNKER, OF ROCHESTER, NEV YORK.
IMPROVED MACHINERY FOR BENDING PAIL-BABLS, 81,0.
Specification forming part of Letters Patint No. 9,438, dated December T, 1852.
To CLZZ whom it 71mg/ concern,.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT BUNKER, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Machine for Bending Bail-Bails; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a machine for bending pail-bails, by which I can bend from one to twenty or more, according to the length of the machine, and bend them morcperfect, and with greater facility than in the ordinary way.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation by referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure lisa perspective View of my machine when completed and ready for use. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of my machine when closed. Fig. 3 shows a bail when iinished.
A, Fig. 1, shows the body of my machine.
B B, Fig. 1, show a head-block, which is firmly fixed to the body.
G C, Fig. 1, show a tail-block, which is firmly fixed to the body A.
DE F G, Fig. 1, show four Vof the handles of the pail-hails.
H I I J and K K show the wires of which the bails are made, placed into the handles 'D E F G.
L, Fig. 1, shows a bar which is hung at one end by means of a pin to the tail-block G C, and is held down at the other end by the button M. The bar L is for the purpose of holding the handles in a proper position to bend the wires.
N N, Fig. l, show a brake by which the wires are bent down. rIhc brake N N is hung at one end to the tail-block C C by means of a pin on which it works, so that it may be brought down onto the head-block B B, and is held down bythe latch O, which catches onto the pin B.
Q and B, Fig. 1, are saddles, which are hung to the body of the machine. (Shown at A.) The saddlesQand R are raised up against the body A, and held up by means of the latch S, which latches onto the catch T.
U, Fig. 1, shows a crank. A part of the crank passes through the tail-block O C and works into the movable block V, Fig. 1, there being a screw cut on the part of the crank which passes through the tail-block C O by means of the crank U. The movable block V is moved backward and forward.
\V, Fig. 1, shows the foot or bottom ofthe machine, which is fastened to a bench when the machine is used.
X X, Fig. 2, show the end of the body of my machine shown at A, Fig. 1.
Y, Fig. 2, shows the end of the head-block shown at B B, Fig. 1.
Z, Fig. 2, shows the end of the brake shown at N N, Fig. 1, when it is turned down.
a and b, Fig. 2, show the ends of the saddles shown at Q R, Fig. 1, when they are turned up against the body A.
C, Fig. 2, shows the latch shown at S, Fig. l.
d, Fig. 2, shows the catch shown at T, Fig. 1.
e, Fig. 2, shows the latch shown at O, Fig. 1.
j' f, Fig. 2, show a wire of which the pailbail is made, and which is shown at I I, Fig. l.
g g, Fig. 2, also show a wire of which the pail-bail is made, and one end of which is shown at II, Fig. 1.
h, Fig. 2, shows the foot or the bottom of the machine shown at W, Fig. 1.
z', Fig. 3, shows the handle of a pail-bail shown at D, Fig. 1.
j j, Fig. 3, show the wire of the pail-bail when the bail is completed, and which isy shown at g g, Fig. 2.
Having thus described the parts of my machine, I will now describe its operation.
I raise up the bar L, and fill the space from the head-block B B to the movable block V with handles, so that the handles press one against the other, having the wires passed through them. I then turn down the bar L onto the handles and fasten it by the button M, and by turning the crank U, I press the movable block V against the handles, which holds them in the proper position to bend the wires. The wires in all of the handles stand in the position as shown at K K. I then turn down the brake N N so as to latch it onto the latch O, and which bends all of the wires down on both sides of the body A, in the position as shown at J. I then turn all of the Wires up in the position shown at I I, which forms the bend at each end ofthe handles. I then raise up the saddles Q and R against the body A,in the position shown at a and b, Fig. 2. I then bend all of the Wires down onto the saddles, which produces the bend in the Wire shown at II, Fig. l, and g g, Fig. 2. I then, by means of the crank U, draw back the movable block V. Next Iunlatch the brake and raise it up in the position as shown in Fig. l. I then turn the button M and raise up the bar L, and take the handles out completed, as shown in Fig. 3.
