Definitions
- My invention has for its object to enable the burrs of mills to be conveniently and easily balanced to a perfect standing or running balance, by means of a device simple in construction, and easily applied and adjusted, and it consists in weights which are made vertically and laterally adjustable upon an open ring encircling the burr, as hereinafter more fully described.
- A represents an ordinary mill-burr, about the construction of which there is nothing new.
- B is an open-ring band, passing around the burr A, and which I prefer to make of a round metallic rod.
- One end of the ring or rod B is swiveled to the long or link nut C, and upon its other end is cut a screw-thread, which ts into the screw-thread of the nut C, so that the said rod or ring B may be slackened or tightened at will.
- D are weights: three or more of which should be used. The inner and outer sides of the weigh ts D should be curved to correspond with the curve of the burr A.
- the outer sides of the weights D are grooved horizontally to receive the wire or rod B, so that the said weights may be raised and lowered as required, and yet be securely held, when adjusted, by the rod or ring B.
- the Weights D may also be formed with lugs or projections d upon their outer sides, to serve as handles in adjusting their position.
- the weights D may be easily moved horizontally or vertically to exactly balance the burr, and thus greatly diminish the time and labor now required for this operation.
Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. WILSON, OF TOLONO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGrNORy TO HIMSELF AND HORACE FRAN CISCO, OF SAME PLACE.
IM PROV\EMENT IN MILLSTONE-BALANCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 94,370, dated August 31, 1869.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WILsoN, of Tolono, in the county of Champaign and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Mill-Burr; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved mill-burr. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to enable the burrs of mills to be conveniently and easily balanced to a perfect standing or running balance, by means of a device simple in construction, and easily applied and adjusted, and it consists in weights which are made vertically and laterally adjustable upon an open ring encircling the burr, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents an ordinary mill-burr, about the construction of which there is nothing new. B is an open-ring band, passing around the burr A, and which I prefer to make of a round metallic rod. One end of the ring or rod B is swiveled to the long or link nut C, and upon its other end is cut a screw-thread, which ts into the screw-thread of the nut C, so that the said rod or ring B may be slackened or tightened at will. D are weights: three or more of which should be used. The inner and outer sides of the weigh ts D should be curved to correspond with the curve of the burr A. The outer sides of the weights D are grooved horizontally to receive the wire or rod B, so that the said weights may be raised and lowered as required, and yet be securely held, when adjusted, by the rod or ring B. The Weights D may also be formed with lugs or projections d upon their outer sides, to serve as handles in adjusting their position.
By this construction, by simply slackening the rod or ring B, the weights D may be easily moved horizontally or vertically to exactly balance the burr, and thus greatly diminish the time and labor now required for this operation.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The weights D, provided with horizontal grooves, whereby they are adapted to be adjusted both vertically and horizontally upon the open ring B, as herein shown and described, for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me.
GEORGE W. WILSON. Witnesses:
F. L. MORGAN,
M. H.4 BENNETT.
